“Enjoy the peace and beauty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

I especially like the scenery from the deck in front of the reception house. The hostess is kind to allow us to enjoy the view at the deck. Watching the evening/morning rays shining on remote Mt Baker while horses gaze on the pasture nearby, those are the highlights of our pleasant stay. We were lost in the amazing beauty of nature. Unforgetable experience!

“Outstanding !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

The combination of the Ovenells' hospitality, local knowledge and recommendations along with a spotlessly clean cabin (with one of the best mattresses I've slept on outside my home) made for an exceptional 4 days of hiking in the nearby Cascades. If you're interested enough to be reading this review, go ahead and make a reservation! If you don't want to cook your meals, there is great pizza in town, the Red Apple grocery has very good sandwiches to go, and there's an oustanding brewpub 10 minutes up the road.

“Remote Location, Beautiful Scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We stayed in the Fisherman & Woodsman cabins while touring the North Cascades National Park. These small cabins were clean, cozy and well-equipped with microwave, refrig, 2-burner stove, a/c and heater.

The cabins are in a very small town with only a burger place and a pizza place for restaurants. You may want to stock up on food on your way to the cabins because it's a 15-20 minute drive into town. Be sure to bring a couple of jugs of water. During our stay the tap water had a strong smell and a metallic taste. It was okay for cleaning, but I didn't want to drink it or make coffee with it.

Otherwise, it's a beautiful location, very peaceful and a good night's sleep.

“Only okay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

We rented the Wrangler cabin at Ovenell's. The location of the cabins is very nice with a nice view and a nice front porch on which to sit and enjoy it. The cabin itself is very clean. The linens in the bedroom and bath are surprisingly nice given the condition of the stove and kitchen furnishings. It was not an inexpensive place to stay, but the only one in the area. If this were my only choice, I'd stay again, but I think I'd try to get on the other side of Cascades National Park instead.

“Great accomodations, incompetent billing practices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

My family just returned from Ovenell's. The cabins were great and clean. The scenery was beautiful, and my kids even fed the livestock. But checking in was a nightmare (they messed up my debit card charge and took an hour to fix it-but they didn't fix it-they ended up double-charging me. I notified the owner Monday, when I found out. She said there was only one person that could fix it that wouldn't be in that day. I have called multiple times since then and it seems like they are completely ignoring this mistake and so far still have $319 of mine. The mistake I don't even mind so much, but the owners apathetic attitude toward it, I do. Off to get back on the phone with them to get my money.
Oh, and maybe I'm just used to hotels, but I hadn't known you were expected to pay at the beginning of your stay.

In regards to Mr. Signal's comments we would like to say that in 14 year of business we have never had trouble with our billing. The transaction was done on a debit card and after only paying for 1/2 of stay he returned the same day to pay for the other 1/2 of his stay. The problem is not with our ability to process a transaction but with the fact that he tried the same transaction during the same day. A Staff member who has worked for a large bank for 15 years rectified the problem and his money was returned the next day following the transaction error. We apologize for the inconvience this may have caused Mr.Signal and his family. Due to the fact we are a small family business we do not have extra "hotel" charges and therefore prefer to have the customer pay as they arrive. Many of our guests leave early to go hiking and prefer not to be burdened with check out.
