On Grand Illumination weekend, this was one of the few hotels with rooms available on short notice, and the rates were very good. The place is definitely run down and could use refreshing & repair (esp. carpets and bathrooms). Beds were comfortable but pillows were useless. Shower was strong and hot. Not the greatest hotel ever, but for our purposes it was good--we were rarely in the room except to sleep and shower.
It's off the beaten path--actually located in Toano. When the big new pottery "mall" goes up, it may be in greater demand because it's rather close to that construction. Down the road a bit is Hot Stacks, a very nice pancake house that fills up less quickly than the ones downtown. From here, you have fairly easy access to downtown Williamsburg, although it's about a 10-min. drive.
