“A Great Place To Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Friendly staff, clean rooms, a continental breakfast, and reasonable prices close to the historic area. While we were staying here in February 2004, my husband became ill. The receptionist was very helpful and told me where to take him to get medical attention. As it turned out, he was having a silent heart attack and ended up being admitted to the local hospital. I was concerned because I had no idea how long it would be before we could return home and I knew that a group was expected to check in. The owner assured me that I would not have to look for another place to stay. After the death of my husband four years later, I once again returned to Williamsburg for Christmas. The staff remembered me from earlier visits and gave me a room close to the office in case I needed anything. I have since made the trip several times and have always felt comfortable and safe staying there. I also appreciate the fact that on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas the owner and management keep on only a small housekeeping staff, thus allowing the employees to spend the holiday with their families.

“An embarrassment to Colonial Williamsburg”

Do not stay at this hotel! If it's not the worst hotel in Williamsburg, it's certainly in the top 3. I recently stayed at the Days Inn Downtown while attending a conference at W&M. I will never stay there again.

The building is an ugly, squat, dull gray two story structure that looks like something built as a bomb shelter in the 1950's. Totally lifeless.

The rooms are simply abysmal. Very small and filled with 1970's style furnishing. In fact, the rooms appear to have not been renovated since the 1970's. Everything in the room was some combination of badly worn, scratched, dented or broken. The mattress was hard as a brick -- the most uncomfortable hotel bed I've slept on in a long time.

Then there's the bathroom. Tiny. I'm 6" tall and had trouble drying my hair because I kept hitting the ceiling with the hairdryer. The toilet and sink were well worn. The water temp in the shower kept alternating between hot and cold and no amount of fiddling with the faucet handles could even it out.

Do I have ANYTHING good to say about the place? Well, the Internet service was free and worked very well. That's the only positive that comes to mind.

There is no amount of renovation that could turn the existing building into a decent hotel. It's totally obsolete and badly needs to be demolished and a new, modern hotel built on the site. Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra to stay at one of the other hotels in Williamsburg. You'll be glad you did.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere.

“Nice and welcoming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

This is a very 80s type motel where you have a standard room with beds, chest, chair, bathroom, and tube tv. It has not been updated except there is free internet throughout the motel. The motel offers a swimming pool and there is a very large breakfast room with standard breakfast items in the morning: bagels, toast, cereal, muffins, juice, and coffee. Overall for less than $40 a night, I found the hotel to be just right for the short stay we planned.

Room Tip: You might lose cell phone signal inside the room and we saw many people with bbq's making family...

Room was ok, but carpets and room in general is heading towards being called outdated and worn. Bathroom was modernized Ok-ish recently.
Plastic cups and plates at breakfast... - come on; is this Mc Donalds? -I guess; with a bed.. Big minus for the lady trying to sell time share appratments (or similar) in the reception area - she did not get much of our time, though.
Regret we did not pick B&B in the same street, but we were tired when driving into town and overlooked them...

“OK if you just want somewhere to put your head for the night.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

It's at the cheaper end of the market so you don't expect luxury, but I have stayed in better Days Inn. It's was all a bit tatty. No lift to the upper floor so we had to drag heavy suit cases up the stairs. The bedroom was on the small size, but the bathroom was tiny. There was hardly enough room to dry yourself properly. On our friends' room next door the tap was wobbly and difficult to turn on. The air-conditioning was extremely noisy and sound like a bag full of nuts of bolts in a washing machine. But there was a swimming pool, which was a bonus, even if it was rather grubby around the pool. Staff were friendly although looked as if they had walked in from the street to fill in for an absence. Breakfast was pink doughnuts and waffles with no fruit available, eaten off polystrene plates with bendy plastic cutlery. But none of this was bad it was just all a bit tatty.
