I received an email from RedRoof offering me a special discount of 15% in recognition of my birthday. Inasmuch as I was going to be in Norfolk for a week in November I thought that this was a great deal. I made the reservation for one week, 11/22/11 through 11/29/11. I was quoted a $50.99 per day rate. Just for the heck of it I made a search, not using my RediCard number for the same dates. Imagine my surprise that the birthday rate is the same as the rate for everybody else. I called RedRoof and complained and they said that I was getting a discount, it's just that everybody else also gets it. That doesn't look like a discount to me.
Obviously somebody at RedRoof and the management are too smart by half. What they are doing is giving people the impression that they are getting a discount in honor of their birthday when they are of course, not. A discount off of a price nobody pays is not a discount. It is a deceptive business practice that is illegal. Either give me a discount or don't, just don't take me for a fool, I'm not.
I am very disappointed in RedRoof and this will color my impression of them in the future. IN the meantime the motel lost over $300 in revenue trying to fool me into paying $56 extra. Bad move.
Not everybody is a fool, as a matter of fact most people aren't. Don't try to fool yourself into thinking you are smarter than everybody. You aren't.
