“Nice hotel with lots of bonuses”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

Nice hotel, well maintained and clean. Business oriented but good for families too. Hotel rooms are larger, with a king or two queens and a sectional sofa in the "living room". Nice flat screen plasma tv with a separate data/video input/output panel in the wall so you can hook up laptops, video games, etc. easily. Separate counter with sink and small refrigerator in the living room too, along with a work table with power outlets for laptops.

Another thing We liked was the bathroom vanity and mirror was separate from the tub/toilet so some else could be showering while others are doing their hair/ makeup. That really speeds up the mornings. The vanity area could have been just a little bigger but was still adequate.

The continental breakfast was the usual bagels, toast, fruit, drinks. It was good but nothing extra special. We ate it a few times but usually slept in past the 9:00 finish.

Other bonuses include free parking and free wi-fi.

The hotel is about 30 miles +/- from Washington DC, and maybe 10 from Dulles airport. It is just off the Lee Hwy--Virgina SR 7 and a couple of miles from SR 38 which takes you to Dulles and connect to other freeways into DC. It is also a couple of miles from several big box retailers and chain restaurants in the Dulles Town Center development. The hotel itself is in a business park, and everything requires you to drive to it.

We spent a week there visiting DC, Philadelphia(3 hours by car), and northern Virginia civil war sites. It was a great location close enough to get to DC within 30 minutes but also far enough away that we didn't have to deal with congestion and pay $40 to park our car each day, pay for wi-fi, etc.

On top of all this I booked it through hot-wire and saved at least $500 on my stay.

We liked the

Room Tip: Any room is great. No traffic noise. We slept through Hurricane Irene even.

“Not bad but not as good as expected”

This hotel has a nice big room , at least we got one., And once you get in you think it is truly great. What I don't like is the way they have the airco positioned right next to the bed. It is simply too close for me. Now it was hot outside so you really needed the airco on. But than you have that air blowing over you right next to you. It feels terrible. I moved over to the other roll away bed in the other part of the room ( yes , the room is THAT big ! ) , but there the airco hardly reaches that room. So it's either too much much or hardly anything at all.
Now I am not going to say the room isn't good at all. It is nice and big , the beds are nice and comfy. But I wished they had the airco done better.
Breakfast is complimentary and is like most other hotels ( in the same star class like HI Express , Fairfield Inn etc. etc. ). You can order extra hot meals for a surcharge ( not too cheap ! ).
Internet is free and works flawless.

“Beautiful room but the pool was disappointing.”

We are a family with three children and we chose this hotel over the other two Hyatts near Dulles because of the picture of the beautiful pool on the Hyatt website. Oops. The pool at the hotel is small and basic. Now I have three disappointed kids trying to understand what happened.

“We may stay again on our return trip north”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2011

We were in the area visiting Washington DC and decided to follow Tripadvisor readers' advice and try the Hyatt Place in Sterling for a multi-night stay.

The hotel is pretty convenient to DC, only about 20 minutes drive, though there is a toll-road involved. From the outside it looks more like a Comfort Inn, with a kind of generic-looking exterior, but that is in keeping with the lower-rung "Place" designation. The lot is well-lit and there was plenty of parking. There are internal corridors and elevators and security doors that are locked at night (use card).

The room was large -- very large. Room for the two double beds and a living room area with a Queen fold-out couch. The TV was a 40"+ plasma, however the HD channels were not working the first night. I told the front desk and they were fixed by the second night. My only complaint was the lack of channels. There were about 20 channels, and some of the analog ones didn't come in well.

The beds were hard, but very comfortable. I thought they might be too hard, but I dropped off and slept like a log. The pillows were fantastic - feather pillow feel -- and large. The bedding was Hyatt-standard great.

The room was spotless, the AC very quiet, and the desk area a nice addition.

The bathroom was among the smallest I've ever seen. Though the bump-out shower curtain is a must have, it was hanging on by a thread and took away the precious little space left in the bath. It looked like a screw was missing holding it to the wall.

The Continental Breakfast was OK - toast, english muffins, bagels. But you can order from the kitchen (for extra $$$). A ham & cheese sandwich we bought was $10

There is a shopping center across the street and some restaurants in the area. We tried the Applebees and it was good, and Don Pablo's down the road a mile and it was also good.

Overall a pleasant experience and we may stop again on our way back North

“Not clean!”

We have stayed at a few Hyatt Places and really enjoy the brand. When looking for a hotel near a friend, I looked for a Hyatt Place. What a disappointment. This property was not very clean. Our room was dusty and dingy and certainly not to my cleanliness standard, but I did thought it was acceptable. However, at bedtime (10pm) my daughter pulled out the blanket for the pull out sofa and it had two big stains (not post wash stains...fresh stains!) I called down and it took a few attempts to get a clean blanket (including the "host" bringing us a mattress pad instead) It took over an hour!. The next morning at breakfast the grime continued. The whole area was grimy, but the seating, the high chairs and the garbage can were filthy. I really did not want to eat here.
