“A Hidden Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2011

My husband and I recently stayed in Bargara for four days as we were to attend a wedding in Bundaberg (located about 15km away).
The resort was very nice with everything you could need; it was clean, had a lovely pool and a very easy walk down a lovely esplanade to the small township.
My only criticism is that the main bedrooms of the resort have only Queen size beds where we prefer King size.
I highly recommend this resort and location for an enjoyable mini-break

Thank you for your review. The oceanviews are fabulous. We sometimes see humpback whales from the balconies. And the 'village' is just perfect for a coffee, glass of wine, lovely meal and boutique shopping. We look forward to welcoming you back.

“great views, and location - not the cleanest though”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2011

The location is great, it is close to the pubs, restaurants and shops without being so close that you get the noise. Lovely ocean views from the apartment.

The bed sheets were clean but the quilt was filthy, the blanket on my nephews bed had a large blob of yellow goo on it. These items were replaced by reception. The general overall feel was that the place needed a really good clean. Lots of dust and very tired looking furniture. AIn the lounge room was a very tired looking white sofa covered in stains.

The other thing I found quite strange is that no face-washers were provided with the bathroom linen. I have never stayed anywhere where they don't provide face-washers! I queried this with reception and they say they don't provided them because people steal them. The shower head in the bathroom was horrible, it sprayed water everywhere other than where it was pointed! The maintenance man did soak it in CLR, and there was some improvement.

Now to the kitchen and the clean it up or be charged policy. There is a $25.00 charge for leaving dirty dishes, and you have to take your garbage out and place it in a bin in the car park when you leave - I don't mind doing the dishes before I leave but I think asking a guest to take out the garbage when they leave is a bit much.

I would not stay here again.

We are disappointed you were not happy with your accommodation. This
apartment was one of the final ones in the refurbishment project -
which included new lounges, repainting, replacement soft furnishings
etc.

Stays in self contained apartments are usually longer and generally
involve lots of use of the full size kitchen as opposed to hotels or
motels. Therefore a lot of food and associated waste is generated
during that stay. We simply believe it is better to remove rubbish
regularly, as you would in your own home, to avoid bad odours
developing and the attraction of pests.

You will find this is the norm in self contained apartments.

Should you ever visit Bargara again, we would be happy to welcome you
back to Grand Mercure Apartments C Bargara.

Kind regards
Wendy Moss

“Avoid places that have the guests clean it before they leave or pay a penalty.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2011

Had great potential. Basic cleanliness of unit is good, but don't look too close. The bed was comfy, and the sheet were clean but had lots of holes. the quilt was filthy. The shower head doesn't work and it would take a week to get wet in it. We complained to Steve but he didn't do anything to fix it, I ended up taking in a bucket to rinse off with. The bathroom was somewhat clean, but the shower and floors could do with a good scrub. They only supply one towel per person, and one tea towel in the kitchen. After three days there's no hope of it being clean.
Now to the kitchen and the clean it up or be charged policy. There is a 25.00 charge for leaving dishes in the dishwasher, and a heftier charge if you leave the place dirty. We arrived to a full set of dishes that all needed to go in the wash before we could use them. I'm not picky as I've traveled through asia, S. Amer, and Africa where standards are questionable at best. I figure if you're hurrying to make the 10am check out or get on the road you just throw the dishes through a rinse cycle on the dishwasher (who cares if you only have 5 or 6 - water restrictions be damned), or you quickly rinse them in the sink, dry with a dirty towel and put them back in the cupboards. Whew! saved yourself the 25.00 charge, and dodged the bigger penalty.
At 190.00 a night, call me crazy but I expect the bedding to be clean, and not having to do 2 loads of dishes, pots and pans before we can use them when we arrive. The hotel thinks they are saving themselves work but honestly you're just driving away clients from ever coming back.
It's a shame as the place has a great location, and nice layouts of units.

Dear 2011Mommy,

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

I feel there may be some misunderstanding regarding the exit requirements. We simply ask that any dirty dishes be placed in the dishwasher as you leave. This is normal practice in self-contained apartments. A fee only applies should an apartment be left in an unacceptable condition e.g. food stuffs smeared on furniture and walls, broken furniture, burns to carpets etc.

Our apartments are thoroughly cleaned after each departure and spring cleaned yearly i.e. carpets shampooed, interiors repainted, window coverings cleaned etc.

Considering the extreme wet weather recently it's hard to believe that until last year we had experienced an 8 year drought. Hence the low flow shower rose fittings and other water saving devices that are installed in most hotels, homes and public venues throughout Australia.

Being self-contained, all apartments are equipped with laundries which differs to hotel rooms which are a single room serviced daily.

We encourage all guests to contact reception if they have any concerns about their apartment. Please don't hesitate to so in the future as these things can be rectified immediately. We hope we can welcome you back to 'C Bargara' in the future.

Kind regards
Wendy Moss

“Exceeded my expectations - would definitely go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

We spent a week here (and wish it could have been longer).

The views (level 3) were excellent. By opening the windows (sliding doors) at both ends of the apartment, the sea breeze ventilates the apartment beautifully even on a very hot sticky day (no need for the aircon). The apartment was well-equipped. The location is great, handy to the pub, restaurants and shops without being so close that you get the noise. The walking/cycling track along the Esplanade go past. The table and 6 chairs on the large balcony are a wonderful relaxing place to sit and enjoy the view while you eat, read or whatever.

A couple of minor quibbles. I'd prefer to have a couple of comfy armchairs instead of one of the sofas in front of the TV. The swimming pool is heated and, for me, it was a tiny bit too warm, a bit cooler might have been a little bit more refreshing. The car parks are a bit tight if you have a larger car. There is no free internet but I didn't care because I had my Telstra mobile broadband dongle for my laptop.

I think you probably need to have a car if you are staying in Bargara. I don't think it would be that easy to get around without one.

Dear Kr_afol,

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and the beautiful Bargara area. You are correct about the ventilation...the apartments were designed to utilise the sea breeze to cool the interior.

I hope we see you back again.

Kind regards
