“Captain Bill provides joy for a living!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We had an amazing day with Captain Bill at the helm. Simply put no Culebra experience is complete without a day on the Pez Vela. Beautiful sights, crystal waters, Culebrita, Gigi, Captain Bill. The experience really can't effectively be captured with words. Pure joy on the water! Thanks Captain Bill (and Gigi)! We will certainly be back for another trip! Do not miss this!

“Phenomenal Day Trip & the only way to really appreciate Culebrita!!!”

It was an honor and a privilege for my girl and I to spend what turned out to be a gorgeous day out on culebrita with Captain Bill and his first mate GiGi the dog. We got to hike to the spanish lighthouse, see breathtaking views from the top, snorkel for a bit then we were served some cheese, crackers and salami snacks before heading off to Tortuga Bay to see the other side of the island. As soon as we pulled in to tortuga bay you can see the turtles popping up, we initially hiked over to see the natural made jacuzzi pools & then snorkeled in hopes of seeing more turtles in the crystal blue water. Gigi is extremely helpful with this as she is quick bark and locate any potential turtles as they near the boat making photo ops alot easier. At the end of the day we were prepared some outstandingly delicious grouper with rice, mango and vegetables. I really appreciated the educational aspect of the experience as well, Captain Bill is extremely knowledgeable about culebrita, culebra and the environment we were immersed in. Most importantly though Captain Bill was cautious about everyones safety onboard throughout the day, and the overall environmental impact of his tour which really highlights his true passion what he does!! Tip: Be sure to book this trip at least a few days in advance since the Pez-Vela is a small catamaran not a huge tour boat space would be unlikely if a group tries to book the same day as you (we were a couple), unlike many companies in PR he actually does answer his phone and assists you in setting up the tour time, meeting place, etc!!!!

“Great fishing trip. So great that I repeated it 2 days latter”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

Being a keen angler I booked a deep sea fishing trip with Captain Bill early on and eventhough the fishing was slow it was great trip!
Bill is a great captain that really does all to ensure that you have a great time!
I caught a large sailfish - a first for me.
I had such a good time I begged my wife to let me go fishing with Bill again and being such a nice person she let me!
So we went out fishing again and although the sea was rough, had a great time!!
I can wamly recommend a trip with Bill anytime and would I go to Culebra again this would be the first thing I would book.

“Great Day with Capt Bill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

First let me apologize to Capt Bill for not writing this review sooner because we had a great day on the water with him and his first mate Gigi.
We meet Bill and he brings us to his catamaran which is a beautiful 33' Pez Vela vessel. We are introduced to GiGi, his first mate. She is a small terrier mix dog and is more sea-worthy than a lot of people. Now we are on our way and make some small talk with Bill who we find out is originally from upstate NY but has lived here for 15 years.
We head over to Culebrita and stop on the south side of the island where Dave and I snorkel a bit. Like many places here, there is plenty of reef and because there is so much the fish are more scattered throughout rather than concentrated in one area. This area is also slightly murky and visibility is less in the deeper areas but we still see some interesting things.
Next we head over to Tortuga beach which is a different part of Culebrita. As we head into the cove we begin to see why it is called Tortuga(turtle) as we see plenty of turtles popping up all over the place. GiGi also spots them and let us know where they are. Bill attaches to a bouy here and almost immediately a very friendly hawksbill turtle comes over to see what we're up to. Bill has us get in the water with her (he has named her Tina) and we swin around with her and are even able to pet shell as she swims by us. She is graceful in the water and considering that she has got to be at least 3 feet head to toe is an amazing thing to see.
Dave and I snorkel around some more and Bill begins to prepare lunch. Again we see a steady diet of the same things but I am happy to see that again there is so much healthy reef.
Bill is finishing our lunch while we dry off and get a bit warm. He has a small area on the side of the catamaran to prepare our lunch but he comes out with quite the feast. There is rice with veggies and sesame terriyaki mahi ........it was one of the best meals we had while here.
After lunch we tried our luck fishing. Bill caught some ballyhoo earleir which are smaller fish that are good for catching the bigger fish like wahoo, kingfish and the like, so he rigs up 3 poles and trolls them behind us and we go out to a little deeper water to see what we can get to bite.
After a few runs through an area in which Bill has had luck before, we don't get anything to bite. It has been a long day and it is time to head in before it gets too late. So, while we don't have any luck with fishing, we have a great day out on the water and Bill does not disappoint.
I would highly recommend this trip to anyone and will gladly take it again if we ever find ourselves on Culebra!

“The Most Awesome Time with Kids Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

Cap'n Bill is just great! The lunch was incredibly tasty; Grouper with rice and mangos. Snacks, drinks, everything included. He is so good with kids (we had five - yikes!) The snorkeling off Culebrita Island was beuatiful! Kids got to swim with turtles at Tortuga Beach in Culebrita Island!! Cap'n Bill provided everthing including all the snorkleing gear and even a pair of sunglasses for me as mine broke. We flew in on Flamenco Airlines Charter, landed at airport, headed straight to the dock via taxi (make sure to arrange that in advance if you are coming early a.m.) and set sail on the catamaran Pez-Vela. We made a full day of snorkleing, swimming, eating, and sight seeing off several islands. He made everytinh so easy for us to have the best time with kids ever. If you go to Culebra you gotta do this - it won't disappoint. We're going do this every year now - it was that good.
