“Loved the day entertainment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We just stayed a week at the Blau The atmosphere is wonderful and puts you in a good mood as soon as you step out of your room, which was spotless every day. The two people who ran the day entertainment deserve applause. Every day they would manage to coax us lazy tourists into games, exercise and dance and have us loving it. Their names were Didi and Kelly, look for them if you go. We discovered the piano bar halfway through our stay, what a find! The musicians were very talented. I took spanish lessons every day from a very sweet girl named Midiala, who was very patient with my attempts at their beautiful language. We had an ocean front room which was well worth the extra money. Overall it was worth the money except for the food. There is nothing much to say about it except it was just ok (barely). Everything is half cold in the buffet,or what should be cold was warm! but we learned to live with it because the service was excellent. The food is something that needs to be worked on because everything else was great. The employees are what makes the Blau worth coming back for, but I will wait to see if they can improve their food because a week of that was almost more than we could stand

Room Tip: If you are going to spend a lot of time by the ocean, the little extra charge is worth it

“Horrible Food, Worn Out Rooms..Barely a 3star”

Stayed at the Blau Colonial January 28, 2012 to February 4, 2012.
The good things: The Piano bar was amazing. The musicians and staff are unbelievable. Truly top notch and a first experience for me in Cuba. The bartenders throughout the resort were excellent. Very attentive and drinks were flowing. Typical Cuban people, amazing polite and gracious.I have travelled to Cuba five times, four of which were to Cayo Coco. The beach was great, absolutely clean and lots of beach chairs.
The bad things: The food was awful. Not just that is tasted bad but dishes were served that looked like something I would not feed to a dog. The a la carte restaurants were poorly organized, service tended to be slow and in most cases the food was not cooked properly. I cannot get over the vision of seeing raw meat sitting on a counter, unrefrigerated and being cooked as people ordered it. Unfortunately, I did get very very ill. I spent three days in the room with symptoms of food poisoning. The worst stomach sickness I have had in my life.
The rooms, I switched rooms twice as the bed was so uncomfortable, it would have been more uncomfortable to sleep on the floor.Everyone I talked to experienced the same. The staff acted as though this was something new to them. It was not until I got very very angry did I get a new room. Throughout the trip, I heard people complaining about their beds and changing rooms. Things like toilet paper rolls missing, doors that dont close properly. poorly lit hallways as the lights have burnt out and nobody bothers to change them. Communication is very poor at the resort amongst the staff. It seems to be a free for all most of the time. I actually saw on several occasions, bar tenders or waiters serving liquor to other staff who promptly consumed the liquor. Sadly, I blame the senior management at this resort. The Cuban people are absolutely amazing people and generally provide exceptional service. I love Cuba and Cayo Coco and is one of my favourite vacation choices. Unfortunately, staying at the Blau was a very very poor experience and I would not go back.
No matter how your tour operator is advertising this resort, please please please do not fool yourself. At the very very best this is a 3 star resort.. I have travelled for many years and to many places, some 3 star resorts fair better than this one.

Good luck if you have chosen this spot. Spend the extra and go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the rooms that are in the same section as the front desk/reception. They are old and...

“Loved the atmosphere”

Stayed january 28th to february 4th.
easy check in then off to check out the room which was in block 31 and did we have a great ocean view which was well worth the small sum of 50$.room was good sized, clean and cool when we arrived(nice touch).located near the saltwater pool and not too far from lobby area.air conditioning worked well and was quiet
Always had hot water and excellent pressure.maid always kept the room spotless.the staff were always friendly, smiling and willing to help.
internet service is 3 cuc per 30 minutes and is kind of slow but always did what i needed it to do.
Food as always in Cuba is not the same as we are used to but compared to the at least 6 other hotels i have been to in Cuba the food here was avg to above avg.we always found more than enough choices too eat.they did a different feature meat every night e.g. roast turkey, roast chickens, beef filets etc as well as the regular buffet items.if you wanted things done your way you head to one of the 3 staions to grill, fry or cook up pasta, meats or fish and shrimp they way you want.
The a la cartes were all decent but my least favourite was the italianas the food was simply passable.
Best food for us was by far the amazingly yummy bbq'd chicken.ribs and pork chops served up with paella and veggies by the saltwater pool patio.it was cooked over a kind of charcoal/wood that is native to Cuba and flavoured the food wonderfully.arrive early to get a table as it is very popular.A MUST TRY!!
The lobby bar was our favourite place to go for a drink at night either before or after dinner where they make a great spanish coffee.in the square beside the lobby they had live bands, singers or dancers at night and then a show in the disco later. The shows are average and they do try to get audiences involved.
Beach was great to walk on and was always clean.water was cool due too it being windy all week i think.
We had brought some bsll caps, soaps, shampoos etc to give to the workers around the hotel and the genuine thanks yous and big smiles we got from the people whenever we gave them something was heartwarming.
This was my second trip to this hotel and 5th time to cayo coco and i will definetly return to this resort.yes it is old as several of them are but they do a great job keeping it up and this hotel has style and seems more like a little village than just a bunch of cookies cutter rooms around a pool.
keep up the good work Blau !

Room Tip: Block 31 has great ocean view and is close to saltwater pool.

“Another excellent visit to the Blau”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

From December7 to 17th I enjoyed the hospitality and facilities of the Blau Cayo Coco. It was my fourth visit to the Blau, my 15th to Cuba. As in the past it was an excellent vacation. My room, #3231 tucked in behind the Dorado sea food restaurant was on the 2nd floor. The balcony overlooking part of the huge serpentine salt water pool that snakes its way through a good part of the complex the room was large with 2 ¾ beds, safe, bidet, tub/ shower, mini fridge stocked with pop a beer and a large bottle of water replenished daily. There was also an attractive bath robe (not to keep,) and slippers, a TV with multiple channels; and beach towels. A terrific house keeper kept my room spotless, lots of towels, shampoo, soap, etc. never a shortage, In my honest opinion and I am a fussy eater, the dining at the Blau was excellent. Breakfast. Everything. Fresh juice, eggs, bacon, omelets, crepes, sausages, cheese, cold cuts, bacon, fruit, French toast, still warm croissants and other pastries, yogurt, the list goes on. Lunch had changed somewhat. On previous visits you could enjoy a lunch, pizza, bar-b-qued burgers, chicken, ham and cheese sandwiches, french-fries, at the Yuraguano grill next to the salt water pool now that was changed they only offered burgers, fries and grilled cheese sandwiches, so lunch pretty much necessitated going to the buffet. which which did offer a huge selection of just about everything. .
As in the past dinner at the buffet was excellent , always a large choice, a nightly roast of pork, beef, turkey or what have you plus a grill where the cooks were providing customized service, fresh vegetables, hot soup, fresh breads, cold cuts cheese, you name it, also a large selection of desserts including banana flambé, pastries and ice cream. You would be hard pressed not to find something for every member of the family.

A la Cartes. I tried them all; the Dorado for sea food was very good, as was also the Italian. While I was there, the Caribbean restaurant which had been poolside until a fire last summer reopened in the ocean view restaurant behind block 15 although the view was somewhat lost since it didn’t open until after dark. I went the first night it opened, good food but slow kitchen; hopefully by now they have the bugs out and its functioning better.
Unfortunately there had been a few changes not entirely to my liking since my previous visit in April 2011.The snack bar at la placita (the plaza) where in the past you could get a nice sandwich 24/7 was only open during the night and the plaza bar was not opened at all. The churros stand in the plaza where they make those delicious Cuban donuts was also closed The beach bar which had been so nice for a beer and a burger overlooking the sea for lunch was also closed, although you could still get a beer on the beach since the bar had been moved to the beach activities building but no lunch.

In the past the fresh water pool near block 15 had been my favorite pool since it was a quieter area to hang out had closed during my visit last April for refurbishing and was still under construction during my visit. Possibly it is now open. Possibly also, since the resort wasn’t very busy when I visited, now the season is in full swing they may have made some changes. There is so much here to like, for myself I particularly enjoy the afternoon Spanish classes and the saltwater pool bar pool, a great place to play chess and harvest a tan at the same time. The piano bar which opens nightly at 7 is a wonderful attraction offering top notch professional entertainment, especially appealing to the more mature crowd, the beach is fantastic, no shortage of sun beds and the resort staff, no matter what their jobs are unfailingly helpful and courteous. The evening shows, wandering entertainer’s dancers and disco provide pretty much something for everyone. There are so many reasons the Blau has a loyal clientele returning year after year, I’m pleased to be one of them and will definitely be making a return visit

Room Tip: Pool side rooms maybe a little noisy during the day time.
