Well we returned from the Tryp Cayo Coco yesterday, I'd read MANY reviews before we went and was a tad worried but we pride ourselves in not being picky, but alas some of the comments by others were true! Our first bedroom on the middle floor of block 14 had the most revolting smell and was very damp! We are a family of 4 so figured the room would be big enough for us but we were pretty much ontop of eachother! Our second room did smell better and had a fab sea view,we settled in but soon found the mattress was a bit smelly in that room too, I understand that its humid in Cuba but this was our third trip so know that's not the problem. The bed was really uncomfortable, the bath had been repained and even that had peeled off. The bathroom door was a piece of perspex which didnt have a handle nevermind a lock, it was constantly opening with the breeze from the door or aircon, thats not good when 2 of us had an upset tummy for about 8 days(home now and still a problem). The swamp under the main part of the hotel was DISGUSTING walking by you often got a nosefull of what smelled like a stagnant drain and no i'm not exagerating, I know they are trying to fix it, just getting the unused waterfall feature and opening it up to the rest of the swamp would help. We used the international restaurant which was nice but we were disapointed with the italian, it was fine but nothing special. The pool was cold but we got used to it within a few moments, I slipped getting in at the shallow end and landed on my butt which was quite funny, it could have been a nasty fall for an older person or child. We went to the Cayo's as it was supposed to be beautiful but we found it souless, the beach was nice but lots of cigarette ends and plastic cups all over, down to the tourists. I went for a walk on the beach and found the staff going through the bins and collecting the cups, glad I took our own insulated ones. We took the little train to Flamingo beach which was BREATHTAKING and to the batcave disco which was fab! We were supposed to go to a little farm but ended up at a bar on another beach which was disapointing, having 2 kids the farm would have been better. We did the Jeep Adventure which was great, it was nice to get onto the mainland and see the REAL Cuba, as we left the guide called the Cayo's the FAKE Cuba, we knew exactly what he meant. We have been on the mainland twice before and there is no comparison.I went to the farmacy to see about something to put on a rash I'd developed under my arms and was told I'd need to see the Doctor to get hydrocortisone and antihistamine, even though I told them I had my own they said theres would be better than mine?!?! I didn't pay the 50 Cuc's,I know I could have got it back from insurance I just felt they were just taking advantage of that. The staff were all lovely, especially Yoell the black guy in the buffet and Arias in there too, they couldnt do enough for you, we entered as guests and left as friends, and the lady who organises the horse riding, Limay we are going to keep intouch with them, Oh and also Roy the gardener, he was lovely too.I know the new Manager is trying to sort things out, you see him wandering round and he is pretty hands on which is good, he is lovely with the guests but needs to give his staff a little more respect after all they are the people who make the trip memorable.Dont pay for a sea view, we got ours for free. They tell you when booking that they dont have adjoining rooms but when we were there we think we saw some.We wont be returning,we will stick to the mainland Cuba. OHHHH and the noise from the entertainment was terrible!! TURN IT DOWN!! IF WE AREN'T THERE WATCHING ITS FOR A REASON WE ARE PROBABLY TIRED, EVEN 2 BLOCKS AWAY WE HEARD IT WORD FOR WORD!!
