“Funeral function for Betty Willmott”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I cant tell you how were were looked after on this difficult day, with kindness and care.
The food was very nice, in fact top quality.
The staff were attentive and very nice, if you are thinking of holding a function just contact Keith Eaton as he will see it goes well.
Also value for money here £9 per head for more than plenty, no skimping here.
Would gladly use this for any other functions i may hold.

“Homely, professionally run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Had a birthday party here on Sunday 18th 0f December. A first visit. The function room was full of Sunday dinner eaters and another birthday party. Carvery was the option for that day. It was brilliant, lovely tasty food just like home cooked and plenty of it. Will definately go back there again.

“Staff need training in curtious service!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

Being local we eat here as a group possibly up to 6 times per year. We booked and paid a deposit for their christmas menu fine no problems.

We all arrived and went to the bar to get a drink, when the waitress asked if we would like to go to our table....... we felt hurried a politely declined as we had just arrived and were getting drinks from the bar!!! We had not sat in the lounge area for more than 30secs when the waitress once more ushered us through to the resturant....

My Food was excellent - and plentyful, however two of the group had small issues with their desserts. One supposide chocolate pud - well we struggled to find the chocolate and it actually tasted like straw - but once my friend found a staff member it was changed without problem. The other had pre booked for a simple ice cream which when delievered to the table was actually christmas pudding???? Ok a mix up and was chaged swiftly. Altho as we had finished each course plates were wisked away and we were ushered to the next course - ok very efficient....

The place was pretty busy so we retired for our coffee/tea to the lounge area once more. Now that we had eaten it appeared that we were 'finished with' no one came and asked if we would like tea/coffee - we found somebody after a time and it was ordered and presented to us - brilliant. After a relatively short time after our tea/coffee was delivered we were asked rather rudely by the waitress if we would like to pay. As we were paying seperately we declined her offer as it was a complicated bill having each paid a deposit and individual balances to be calculated. The lady was not taking no for an answer and came back the the balance of the entire bill - we explained again it was complicated. The attitude of this staff member leaves a lot to be desired, certainly not customer service at its best.

We did as asked and individually approached the reception to pay - again to be treated with comtempt this time by a chap behind the desk. I dained to suggest that rather than have the young lad running between tills it may be an idea to go to the till that could cope- alas I was barked at that " it was fine here" - so doing it long hand it was then! This chap also sought to cut off another friend trying to explain that there was drinks to be paid for by barking at her what was her method of payment - how very rude.....

We have found in previous visits the staff to be welcoming and friendly alas on this occassion we felt rushed and treated with contempt throughout what was a lovely meal. We'll be thinking twice on whether we eat here again as there are many nice places to eat in the area with a much friendlier service. Certainly if it's customer service you're after don't go here as you are certainly treated 'with attitude'!

“Best hotel I've stayed in for a while”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

The hotel is very light, airy and clean. When we arrived at the hotel we found we had been allocated a twin room as on booking.com you can't specify a double - however, the receptionist had no problem with swapping us to a double immediately. We were moved to room 16 on the top floor. The bathroom and room wasn't as luxurious or large as those shown on the website - these are obviously the larger more expensive suites but it was still lovely & very comfortable with little sparkling lights on the bathroom mirror that operate by sensor and a general modern trendy feel to it. The LCD tv was enormous for just a hotel room and the room itself was larger than most others I've stayed in. There did seem to be an issue with the heating in that room but it was immediately fixed by the staff and they were very happy to help. Breakfast was delicious & plentiful. Staff very friendly. Cosy bar area also. We visited the pub next door but one which was fine though I'd say a local's pub. I very much recommend the Indian just a few doors down - the Nahar. I would definitely stay there again as great base for visiting the hundreds of local attractions in that area and it's such a luxurious yet homely hotel. I know a few people have mentioned noise from the pub - our room was on the back yet on the same side as the pub and the music stopped by 11 on a Saturday if not before so we had no issues there.
