This hotel is a bit of a hike from the ferry or the train, but it's well worth the effort. The hotel is located on a peninsula that juts into an arm of Lake Constance (the Bodensee), so the dining terrace offers a fascinating view of life on the water. Because the hotel is surrounded by a park on two sides, the views from every room have something to offer. Breakfast (included in the room price) is generous, with many choices. The lunch and dinner menus are inventive and tasty. Our only caveat is that we happened to be in Steckborn during the European heatwave. Most buildings in Switzerland aren't air-conditioned, because they usually don't need to be. Our room had only small windows to open, so sleeping was a bit difficult in the early part of the night until things cooled down. We think that this would normally not be a problem.
