My friends and I stayed at the Pousada de Portomarin while walking the Camino. It provided a great place to crash and rest after a day of hot, tiring walking. The rooms are very large and the beds were comfortable. We had a view of the river, which was nice.
A blocks walk will take you to the center of the little town and the nearest Tapas bars for dinner and spirits. The Internet service at the hotel is way too expensive so go into town to the Internet Cafe instead, but prepare for a wait sometimes. There are more trekkers wanting to write home than there are machines to use. I loved the pay computers too. First I have ever seen and I think it is a great idea.
The breakfast buffet at the Portomarin was good, actually one of the best I had on my whole trip, and the hotel staff was friendly. Don't expect to converse in anything other than Spanish though. You will need basic Spanish to get by.
