“Okay if you're on a budget”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Hotel is in need of a bit of a facelift. Reception and breakfast area is fine but rooms (wood chip wallpaper, hard beds and damp in bathroom) could do with some tlc. Poolside sunbeds also need replacing as most if not all are ripped. Hotel is a few minutes walk from blanes beach. Maids were fine did as good a job as you'd expect with your room. Reception staff wernt particularly approachable. If you fancy dining out for breakfast, there is a fantastic cafe/restaurant directly opposite who offer English, Scottish, Irish, dutch and German breakfasts, called k&m (I think) and is British owned.

“Great resort”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

Stayed at the Montserrat for a week in August, the rooms are basic which was expected with what I paid, what I did not expect were cigerette burns in the sheets/pillow covers, stained towels and mould on the shower curtain. The hotel is located by a Disco so if you are expecting to be able to have quality sleep at night this will not happen from Thursday to Monday. It may have not affected those on higher floors.I did ask if I could change rooms but had a very unhelpful person on reception who just kept informing me "It is the weekend, yes noise, it is the weekend". Not only do you have the disco noise but the rubbish / bins containing empty bottles are collected from right outside the hotel at about 3.30/4am at least 3 times the week I was there.
The pool is quite small and the sunbeds are in an appalling condition , only two sun umbrellas - both of which were broken. Fortunately the hotel is just a few minutes walk to a fantastic beach - although do expect to pay 8 euro for a sunbed and umbrella daily. The resort itself was aimed at families who like a quiet, restful break, not much to do in the evening for those aged 13 to 16 yrs. A hotel by the beach had daily evening entertainment which let non residents attend - as long as you bought a drink - good range of entertainment provided and broke up the evening after a meal by the harbour.
I would return to Blanes but would definitely not stay at the Montserrat which I would grade a one star not two as advertised.

“Nothing special, but OK for our needs.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

This is a typical older-style Spainish 2 star Costa hotel and, as a result, fairly basic. No aircon, thin walls, and noisy from within the hotel and outside. But it is centrally placed, with shops and bars nearby, and close to the beach and the free bus stops for the two nearby waterparks. The lift worked all the time we were there. There are two smallish pools, but only one of the sunbeds was not damaged. Our room was comfortable enough, with space for 3 single beds, and the small balcony had a table and two chairs. The bathroom had a small bath/shower but no bidet. The food was straightforward (not spiced), with a plentiful choice at both breakfast and dinner, though cooked and presented in the 'Spanish way'. (We have had breakfasts in 4 star hotels in Spain not as good as these). There was no entertainment in this hotel or the bars around, and, it would seem, little or none in the other hotels either. Nightlife in Blanes appears to consist of watching football on TV, and there is no shortage of that. The beach has coarse gritty sand, too, so, overall, Blanes is not great resort. The one standout point at this hotel was the staff. Without exception, they were friendly and competent. They don't have much English btween them but they were always happy to help.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the pool should be quieter.

“More Than Adequate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

Just go back after a very good week, we thought we had booked to go to Lloret de Mar but ended up in Blanes which is a lot quieter but very nice, we have no bad comments about the Hotel, its a very short walk from a clean beach/sea front, the room was cleaned every day with fresh towels, it is a 2 star so the decor is a bit dated, the breakfast was adequte for us girlies (fairy plain/continental), we would go back again, there is a 24 hour manned reception and the staff were very pleasant, we didnt use the pool but it looked OK alhough the sunbeds were a bit scruffy

Room Tip: When booking make your requests clear, we found them accomodating

“Interesting..”

Our room had one window and no balcony, the window viewed a square of four other walls of the hotel, including drainpipes and a lack of light. The bathroom door didn't close properly and the bathroom utilities were very dull. The double bed was very hard and barely comfortable to sleep on. The packed lunches were terrible although the breakfasts very lovely! Okay, so the hotel isn't the best of hotels but it is about 5 minutes walk from the sea with a pool which is on the 2nd floor providing a lovely feeling of being above everyone on the street and also with some lovely views. The surrounding pubs and nightclubs are an advantage for younger tourists who only have to stumble across the road back to the hotel. I'd recommend the hotel to those who are only looking for somewhere to sleep at night and to relax at a lovely (yet small) pool.
