“Mostly nice if you know what you are getting. Reviews too harsh.”
The reviews seem a bit harsh. Yes, the hotel is a bit pricey, but it is August in Cadaques and it is very hard to get a room. The town is packed and space is limited. This is comparable to any hotel you would get circa 1990 in Door County, Wisconsin.
The rooms are on the smaller side, have tile floors and thinner walls. Our room did not look like the pictures, but it was not horrible either. The TV is small without many channels. But you are not in Cadaques for the room. Overall, the bed is fine. The bathroom is clean, but not extravagant with a mid-1980's styling that is well kept. The balconies are a plus to sit outside. Plenty of closet space. This is not a four star hotel, but it is not a one star either. It is solidly 2.5 to 3 stars. Despite being disconnected from the world by the mountain road, this hotel has free wifi. Everything is clean, which is important in a resort town.
We found tha staff very helpful-- with directions, holding the key while you went to town or the beach and with any request. No one was rude to us-- quite the contrary. It would have bene easy to be rude to the American family, but everyone was nice. The breakfast was included for us and was fine. It had a wide selection of carbohydrates, some fresh and canned fruit, cereal for kids (a plus for us traveling with kids), lots of coffee and fresh juices. It was more than adequate. I am not sure I would pay 12 euro, but that seeme dto be the going rate for anything more than a croissant and coffee anywhere we went in Spain.
The pool up the hill was simple, but very nice and had enough folding chairs for everyone. It was a nice break. The beach right outside the hotel is nice. It was convenient to have both a patio and a beach to use if you wanted to swim in the bay. You can walk to other beaches and towards one of the islands along a rocky path. The setting is very nice. Other beaches are close by. You are not in the middle of town, which can be a plus or a minus, but be prepared to walk. The hotel is 10 to 15 minute walk from the center of town and 30 to 4o minutes from Dali's house. All of this is an easy stroll with some up and down, but that is the pace of life in Cadaques.
We enjoyed Cuatro and Pizzeria Grito for food, and any of the bars on the beach for a drink. The town square usually has some entertainment near sundown. Wander teh shops and the restaurants in small winding roads.
If taking the bus, call the hotel for a ride. It is a bit of a walk. They will gladly accommodate. If driving, they are serious about the winding road. It is not for the light hearted.
Cadaques is worth the trip, and Hotel llane Petit is a more than acceptable place to stay, especially fromw hat we generally saw around town.
