“Relaxed luxury at the Bahia Real”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

All the good things you'll read from other reviewers are true. This hotel is outstanding. Friendly, professional staff and excellent facilities. Great atmosphere. It's actually quite hard to come up with an original comment - just believe the praise. Certainly hope to make return trips. I went with my mum and we both loved it and will go back and I also intend to take my partner there.

Lovely lobby and friendly staff (except in the clothes shop and occaisionally at the pool)
Good restaurants
Great pool area, sheltered from the wind
Good size bedrooms and bathroom
No internet in rooms
Had to ask for tea/coffee in rooms. Wanted to charge 4 euros for few more sachets of coffee and milk until we complained.
Surrounding areas look like a war zone. Unfinished builings and empty ones left to rot.
Corralejo town is a bit 'kiss me quick' athough there were a few decent restaurants.

Room Tip: Balcony overlooking pool has sun from 10.00 to 14.00 hours

Dear Guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for writing your comment about your recent stay with us.

Further, we are pleased to read that the lobby, the accommodation, the staff and the hotel installations were to your complete satisfaction. On the other hand, we would like to let you know that the unfurnished building situated at the backyard of the hotel, doesn’t influence negatively the quiet and peaceful ambience in our hotel. In reference to the wifi, we would like to explain you that our hotel provides upon request of the client, free cable internet or wifi in the accommodation. Next time, just ask our reception team, they will be happy to help you.

Concerning the room service, we inform you that the kettle service is free of charge and that the daily refurnish of teas, coffees and milk has an extra cost.

Once again we thank you for your comment and we would be happy to welcome you again at the Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahía Real.

Kindest regards,

“Good but could be great”

I and my partner stayed for a week in late January. The initial impression of the hotel is excellent with a well presented, grandiose reception area. The reception staff were always very helpful and polite and carried out there duties in a pleasant professional manner.

We stayed in a sea view Junior Suite, which was a good size and comfortable. The bathroom was well proportioned with his and hers sinks and a great power power and good sized bath.
The adjacent hotel bar was well staffed, service was quick and the bar staff helpful.
Breakfast had a good selection to cater for most palates but I echo the comment from a previous review regarding the coffee which was below standard.
The hotel beach restaurant was dissapointing in the attitude of the staff, who we found were not particularly loquacious and who didnt sell the menu in any way. We stopped using the restaurant after a disastrous attempt at a fish dish, which was taken off of the bill.
The evening buffet restaurant was disappointing, this needs to be worked on.
The hotel spa and gym are worth a visit with friendly and attentive staff. The gym has free weights not just machines and guidance from the fitness staff if required.

Availability of in room tea/coffee making facilities, wireless routers and other room extras needs to be advertised in order for guests to make more of there stay.

For those that do not want to pay for the extortionate mini bar there is a well stocked shop / mini market 5 minutes walk if you turn right out of the hotels main entrance.

Correlejo is definitely worth exploring, especially the harbour restaurants where we discovered two resturants where we had excellent meals for 30-50 euros for 3 courses.

We did encounter one of the senior hotel staff who is a regular in the celebrity photos that adorn the walls near the buffet restaurant. A tip from a well travelled guest - You really must try harder to respond to guests when they speak to you, no excuses as we tried on two separate occasions.

On the whole a good 5 star hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comment in tripadvisor. We feel honoured that you have chosen our hotel for your winter sun holidays.

Furthermore, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your Junior Suite and particularly liked our breakfast buffet. We thank you also for the praise given to our service and gum staff.

As the quality of our gastronomy is always of great importance to us, we regret to read that the food served in our buffet restaurant “La Alacena” and at the “Beach Club Las Palmeras” did not meat your expectations. Generally the variety and the choice of our 5 star food service is to the special liking of our international guest. Your comment will be taken into consideration, but as we explained the majority of our clients particularly enjoy our food service.

We hope to see you again on a future holiday in Fuerteventura.

Kindest regards,
The General Manager

“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed in the Atlantis Bahia Real from 21st Jan to 1st Feb 2010, so we have just got home. I think there are many reviews on here that cover everything I have to say. Beautiful hotel, fantastic food wherever we ate in the hotel (in fact so good that we didn't bother eating anywhere else). We had a Junior Suite on the ground floor (No. 125), very good size, great 'wet room' style shower in the bathroom, big terrace and it was quiet. Turn down service every evening. As we were leaving, it looked like the metal fencing between the hotel and beach was being replaced by glass. This will make the view even better, I noticed some people on here didn't like the fence, but it didn't bother us to be honest.
We rented a wireless router for the room for EU20, which meant I could use my iPad in the suite. I think it would have been a nice touch for the hotel to provide these free of charge and just take a deposit. Anyway, there was a good signal so I was happy.
The spa is gorgeous and we used it every day. The gym is small, but has everything you need and a very helpful gym manager.
If you like sitting by the pool, there are plenty of sunbeds. There are also some on the beach outside the hotel if you prefer to experience the sight and sounds of the sea (we did).
Lovely bar and a superb bar manager, great to have a drink before dinner.
The main thing for me that makes this hotel so great is the staff. Very friendly, polite, helpful and all very keen to make sure you have the best holiday. The surprise chocolate cake for my husband's birthday was a very nice touch.
So...fabulous hotel, fantastic holiday and I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Room Tip: Ground floor suites roomy and great sea views.

“Well below expectations - no atmosphere, no character, no charm”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012
6
people found this review helpful

Given the reviews I saw on this hotel, we decided to give it a go. We always go to another 5 star in Maspalomas, so we had certain expectations but appreciating that it would always be a different experience. Wow, how it dissapointed me.

Pro's
1. Great lobby, wonderful and majestic views.
2. Great sea view from room, it is right on the sea
3. Able to purchase glass of wine from dinner menu is a great idea.
4. Courtyard gave great shelter from the winds
5. Nice outdoor balcony and terrace furniture
6. A4 newssheet of news in various languages and the hotel events of the day given out at brekkie....nice touch!

Con's
1. On arrival, we were greeted by a pretty girl who insisted on taking our big heavy cases. They were far to heavy for her to be lifting on to the trolly. I know it is not PC to say this, but I hate to hand over heavy bags to a lady half my size and weight!

2. The pool area appeared to have just one attendant who stayed firmly in his hut reading or biting his nails. His sole purpose seemed to be to hand out towels and there was no effort on his part to make sure you were ok getting a mattress for the lounger and generally providing that extra value service that you would expect that made sure you were comfortable. If you needed your lounger to be moved to a better position, dont expect the staff to be on the look out to provide assistance if you are older or pregnant. You would have to go and find someone to assist.

3. You get 2 tokens at check in, that you exchange for a towel each day. If you dont return the tokens when checking out, expect a 30 EUR fine for each missing token. An immediate case of the hotel not trusting their guests....not a good sign.

4. The palm trees were badly kept...I would expect to see the trees well maintained, with any dead foliage removed (see pic)

6. The railings that separated the hotel from the beach were rusty all over and disintegrating (see pic)

7. Only one free dinner option - the buffet. Good selection but really very dissappointing compared to what I have experienced elsewhere.

8. If you wish to try other dinner options in other restaurants, you will get a 20 EUR per person credit towards the meal. That means you must have buffet in the same bland "cafeteria" every night if you dont want to pay supplements. If you wanted a set dinner with starter and mains, expect to have to supplement another 20 per person + drink.

9. The waiting staff in the buffet were pretty and neatly dressed and attentive. But that was it. They lacked experience and maturity. Their sole purpose was to take away your plates and to serve the drink. They seemed to lack direction. Waiting for movement at a table that indicated a plate was ready for collection. When asked a question regarding food availability, we received a giggle and "I dont know".

10. No senior staff member ever came around to the table and asked how things were.Suited (pretty) women greeted us on arrival at buffet and took our room number...they had no other purpose that we could see. They maintained a low profile and remained in the background.

11. The music piped out through the speakers at dinner and breakfast was generally depressing slow overplayed classics....Toni Braxton "Unbreak my heart", the "Titanic" theme tune ....not really what you want to hear in a 5 star Spanish chain hotel!

12. Really the entire hotel lacked atmosphere, character or charm. The buffet area was like a work canteen.

13. All drink prices on the menu excluded Tax. There was no easy way to see the final charge including tax until we checked out and saw the complete bill.

14. No weigh scales in the room to check baggage weight or to monitor own weight. Machine in lobby that charges 1 EUR per weight.

15. No wireless internet in rooms, only in lobby. What age are we in?

16. Furniture in rooms, specially the TV cabinet, was old and cheap.

17. Evening music was awful and depressing. People playing Violin and Piano in bar, singing that Gilbert O'Sullivan tune "alone again...naturally". Summed up the place. Its a nice tune, but not for a holiday looking over the ocean!

18. No welcome bottle of water in room in arrival. All drinks in the room have minibar charge. Would expect at least one bottle of complimentary water. No fruit in room. No tea/coffee facilities in room.

Tips
If you like evening sun, you will be very limited at this hotel. In January, you lose the sun in the courtyard about 5pm. The sea view rooms face NE, and the balconies are too cold to sit out on when there is a breeze. You may be able to enjoy it when sun shines directly in from 8am - 10am.

Location - 25 min walk Corralejo, so a bit of a trek. Nice beaches are 10 mins walk or so. No shops around the corner.

Conclusion - if the cons I have listed dont really have a big bearing on your holiday, you will like this place. It is a place that cares about appearance and beauty first, and substance and character are not a priority. If these cons are things that matter to you, avoid this hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comment in Tripadvisor.

It’s a pleasure for us that the lobby was to your satisfaction and that you enjoyed the beautiful seaview from our hotel. On the other hand we regret that our hotel did not meet your expectations. We are surprised since at this time of the year the majority of our guests leave our hotel really satisfied.

Since opening our hotel, we have received numerous honours and awards that recognize the value and professionalism of our staff that is always attentive to our guests, having become the unique 5 star luxury hotel of Fuerteventura and one of the best hotels in the Canary Islands. Our hotel is characterized for being cosmopolitan; having a high number of clients from Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy ... in other words every European nationality visit us and enjoy our high quality service.

In reference to the towel service and the 20 Euros of discount on our a la carte restaurants, we would like to explain you that our hotel management is in line with other 5 star luxury hotels in the world.

Regarding your check in, we would like to let you know that our hotel has a concierge service which brings your luggage directly in your room.

In relation to the evening entertainment, we would like to explain you that in our hotel there act different musicians every night with a wide range of national and international music to suit all our clients tastes.

The size and charm of our hotel make it feel like a home away from home." We can not share your opinion that the restaurant appears like a canteen. All the ambientes are decorated with love, so also the buffet restaurant “La Alacena Real”. Furthermore, there is always a manager available during the food services, who is controlling the quality of food and service, to guarantee the satisfaction of our guests.

Once again we thank you for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

Kindest Regards,
The General Manager
