“Fantastic location, spacious family rooms, food so-so”

Best beach ever - compared to beaches in Egypt, Thailand, Bali, etc. Quiet locale, kid-friendly, nice big family rooms. Food so-so - presentation definitely lacking, and atmosphere of main dining areas more student cafeteria than anything else... noisy and chaotic.

Second time at the Riu Oliva.Stayed for 11 days in January 12. Lovely hotel food even better than two years ago, lots to choose from, well cooked and presented. Everything spotlessly clean. Staff work very hard and always freindly and helpful. Must mention Veronica in the annex restaurant and Diego in the annex bar (great cocktails!!). Hubby and I stayed in the annex apartments, had two rooms which was great to have a separate bedroom and proper living room. much prefer that to hotel room, lovely and peaceful, great terrace. Rooms cleaned every day, thanks to Maria. Beach gorgeous and very clean. Bus into Corralego every half hour 1euro 20. Watched footy in the "Cheeky Monkey" bar ( San Miguel on draft for 1euro 50).Hello to Sam and Steve from Bristol. Will go again asap.

Room Tip: annex rooms facing beach are more private

Went hear for four nights over new year and had a good time. Weather was ok for December and managed to sit out for at least four hours per day.Beach was ok, pool area very busy - not enough sun beds though. Food was good and always plenty of choice. Room was dated and in need of repair and decoration - bathroom quite shabby, Overall a good time was had.

“Good all inclusive break, thanks to amazing staff.”

Just back from a fortnight at this hotel, booked it as a late deal 4 days before travelling and got a very good price. We checked in with Thomson at Gatwick the evening before the flight, would recommend this and would take this option again. The flight was on time and we arrived slightly early into Puerto Del Rosario airport, didn’t take long at all to get through the airport and before we knew we on the bus and arriving at the hotel. On arrival we were advised by the receptionist to leave our bags and go straight to lunch, we did so and were pleasantly surprised by the food on offer in the main restaurant.

After our meal we headed back and were given the keys to Room 2156, this room was ok, although the bedroom was very dark due to having a wooden trellis over the window, quite near the kids club, we don’t have kids so are unsure why they would put us here, but the room was pleasant enough until a very noisy family with a screaming kid moved in a few days in and we asked to move, unfortunately at the time we asked a certain Sandra was on reception, the only member of staff who seemed to have a bad attitude, she refused to move us that day and we ended up having to ring the 24/7 holiday line, who helped us to be moved the following morning to a far better room at the back of the complex, 2314, which had the benefit of being on the second floor with a massive sunbathing deck with sunbeds, RESULT!! We would recommend this room, and also room numbers 2313 to 2320, as they all have the same sundecks, only reason to leave the room was for meals! A big thank you to the three receptionists who helped us with our move.

We found the restaurant in the Annexe to be far superior to the main hotel, really shouldn’t be any difference but the food seemed far nicer here and it was generally a bit quieter (bar some families with very noisy, unruly children). We tried both of the speciality restaurants and were not overly impressed to be honest, there was far more choice in the main restaurants and the food in the speciality was just buffet still, the only difference was that you were served wine at the table.

The drinks service was excellent, you could help yourself to soft drinks, wine, beer and hot drinks all day long, far better than queuing. If you wanted anything else you could go to one of the many bars, where the friendly staff would fall over themselves to serve you. Drinks are of course served by the glass (or plastic during the day), but it is possible to get a bottle of Cava if you ask nicely enough!

We felt that the hotel was looking a bit tatty in places, but it was kept absolutely spotlessly clean by the army of staff who work there, the staff are what really makes this place, they are extremely helpful, friendly and have a can-do attitude, which is so often lacking in other hotels. Yes we did tip, but we didn’t feel that this made our service any different to that which any other holiday makers received.

On the subject of staff we’d like to say hello to Diego, Salek and Jonathan who worked in the bar in the annexe, they worked so well as a team and were great fun to chat with, we didn’t enjoy the entertainment on offer in the main building so would always come here after our evening meal for a drink or two.

We walked along the beach up to Corralejo a couple of times, which took about 1.5 hours, and was a nice walk, it was also very easy to catch the bus there. We went to Oasis park for a day, which was really good fun and we also took the full day trip to Lanzarote, which was a great day out and good value. The Thomson/First Choice rep, Andy was really good, a very honest chap, but unfortunately he has gone back to the UK and will be repping in Majorca later on this year.

If you get a good deal there is no reason why you can’t come here and have a really good break, it is what you make of it, we came here to relax in the sun and we did just that.

Room Tip: Rooms 2412 to 2420 are on the second floor with massive sunbathing terraces, perfect!

“A fantastic new years break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Returned to this hotel for the second year running almost exactly the same dates....as the previous year.
The location of the hotel is outstanding...situated on the beach surrounded by beautiful Sahara sand....A great continental mix of people.........NOT only German as everyone seems to assume...the clue is in the hotel name the "RIU" chain is a German company so if you dont want to mix with other cultures...go to a bog standard predictable English packaged hotel...Get a grip!!!!!!!!!...We had a fantastic stay, the staff are very friendly, the foods superb. The rooms are basic but very clean. Would recommend a restaurant in Corrajelo called Boardriders in the Campanario for a beautiful mexican/thai meal.
The pool areas clean and the drinks and snacks excellent....Theres always someone to hide you want a quiet spot...would return...
