“A small hotel with excellent facilities”

We visited this hotel in May 2009, it was so nice it is still strong im my memory. It is built in the style of a hacienda and all the communial areas are nicely decorated. The staff are friendly and helpful and all facilities very good. The evening meals were outstanding, in fact we would rate the restaurant as one of the best we have experienced in Spain. The hotel is minutes away from the autovia and has large patios and swimming pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are hoping to return in 2012.

“Lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

I loved this little hotel, it's a real find.
It is just seconds from the motorway but still quiet and has lovely views over to the Med. from the rooms, lounge and dining room/bar.
Spotlessly clean, big room, functional balcony, lovely staff, nice breakfast, free Wi-Fi in lounge.

A couple of things to note. a) the lane up to the hotel is STEEP b) Wi-Fi is restricted to the lounge and dining room/bar, not the rooms.

I didn't see any notices about taking away food and nothing about charging for the use of the fridge in the room - in fact there was no fridge.

I'll stay here again and have already recommended it to friends.

“half bored”

If, like us, you are hiring a car and heading somewhere different every day this is an ideal place to stay. It is within easy reach of Nerja and Frigiliana and just off the motorway for trips further afield. We had looked at hotels in Frigiliana and are pleased we didn't stay there (too quiet) and ones in Nerja which when we saw them from the car didn't live up to their websites. The review title is just a joke as by day 7 I was having trouble choosing my evening meal, having already had the dishes I liked. They have a good a la carte menu though if you have the funds and the half board food is very good value. The Aubergines with honey and the scrambled egg starters are enormous. They sneak a la carte dishes on as specials so if you are lucky you may get what you fancy after all. There were 2 couples we met who were on their 4th and 3rd visits to the hotel so they are doing something right. The complaints about the fridge charges bothered us but we were not charged tho we did put our water in at night. If you don't take the micky and fill it with beer from the supermarket you should be o.k. Although close to main road it doesn't spoil the stay, the views are lovely, particularly from the restaurant terrace. Well maintained swimming pool was a welcome alternative to traipsing to the beach. Would highly recommend this hotel.

“Pretty basic rooms but fantastic overall”

Excellent place - great value, good humoured and laid back service and made very comfortable - rooms pretty "Spartan" but lovely terrace - food also great - highly recommend the "pig cheek"! Best to ignore references to taking own food and drink etc - weird but was not issue as water for room was 2 euros / coffee 1.50 mini bar cheap.

“Friendly service, a well located, rustic hotel with some charm but a bit dated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

We have just come back from a stay at this hotel and whilst the service and welcome were friendly and the rooms & hotel very clean and not without some charm, the issues mentioned in other reviews were confirmed.

The pluses are the location, if you have a car it is easy to get to & from Malaga (under one hour) and well placed to access Nerja, Frigiliana, La Herradura et al. The rooms are clean and functional, the service friendly and the one dinner we had (New Year banquet) was excellent.

The negatives - There is a TV in the room - I didn't measure the screen size but it was miniscule and of the type popular in hotels in the last century. Thankfully we have holidays to catch up on reading but if you want to watch your favourite programme, bring binoculars. An investment in some LCD TVs would be a great idea especially as this is not a huge hotel in terms of room numbers or they should just be removed (which at least would mean that you won't be kept awake by the blue monitor light which stays on all night..)

Why have a sign on your breakfast table telling diners it is "forbidden to take food out of the dining room" (especially when the breakfast is essentially comprised of the usual tasteless ham, cheese and plastic wrapped pastries). The honest diner will be irritated but the determined fruit and cereal thief surely won't be put off?

When your outside pool has been drained, why attempt to charge 15 euros per person per hour for your indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi.? The result is no one uses these amenities and everyone feels cheated having read the list of amenities and assuming they are inclusive.

Why also attempt to charge guests for chilling their drinks in your fridge?

All of the above just seems like pointless mean spiritidness, in what must be a very competitive market? You would think that the aim was to delight your customers so much that they want to come back and would recommend your hotel to their friends. These policies seem to be designed to achieve the opposite for what is essentially a decent hotel.

Its also time to repaint or do a new sign by the road - the current one is old and faded - so what does that say about the Hotel?
