“THE LITTLE HOTEL THAT COULD!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

The Little Hotel That Could...cafe' society chic! relaxed sophistication! attention to detail!STRINGENT STANDARDS!
At the very heart of this elegant establishment are the staff along with your hosts The Beautiful Fatima and her consort Manuel... at your service.
The rooms are appointed in clean contemporary lines all with breath taking views of the sea. Breakfast is a delight one is welcomed with a fresh flower on tables dressed in snow-white linen, gleeming high-end cutlery and crockery.
Lunch on the esplanade is an absolute must, I would urge you to take all meals at the hotel as the food is fresh, freshly prepared in a pristine kitchen, beautifully presented and quite simply the best value for money in town.
The location of this hotel is it's strength, well placed for all pursuits, after a hard days Lavada walking White Waters is a haven.
On a more aesthetic note you are a mere sixty seconds from the promenade and the waters edge with the pride and joy of Machico but a breath away...the lovely beach.
The little town of Machico is not so much a town as a hefty village; quaint, charming, away from the hustle and bustle, no tourist tat just the locals going about their daily routine. Tourists and locals alike stroll the promenade in perfect harmony, Sunday is for strolling in ones Sunday-best , taking coffee after church, luncheon with the family, sweethearts watching the of the sunset....you are most welcome to join them.
Machico and this little gem of a hotel is but four hours away... SO! what are you waiting for? My faith in humanity restored I look forward to my return. Obrigada White Waters.

“Best place to stay in Machico!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

Wonderful littlehotel, great value for money. The staff were extremely friendly and most accommodating. The owner even ran us to the airport. Location for Machico was great - smack in the middle of town. If you go to Machico (only do a couple of days here as there is not much to do), stay in this hotel!. Good food in the hotel restaurant, although a bit pricey.

“Feel at home in this great little place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2010

This was our fourth trip to Madeira. We had previously taken the bus to Machico for the day and found it to be a delightful small town with excellent bus services to the east of the island. We resolved to stay here on our next visit.

White Waters did not disappoint.
Pros
* Very friendly, family-run small hotel. Special mention should go to Gaby on reception for whom nothing was too much trouble, and always a welcoming smile.
* Lovely little restaurant serving some of the best food in town. This morphs into a bar much frequented by local people (surely no better recommendation).
* Simple but modern furnishings in a well designed modern building, all spotlessly clean.
* Great value for money!
* Free wired internet in the bedrooms and WI-Fi in the public areas.
Cons
The only one we found was that the revelry of the local youth spilling out of the small disco opposite the hotel (weekend only) caused us to have to sleep with the bedroom window closed on those particular nights.

We WILL return.

“Perfect for Winter Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2010

My wife and I stayed here for 9 nights and can thoroughly recommend. The owners and staff were all thoroughly professional, very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room, although comfortable, lacked a fridge and tea making facilities; on request these were provided at a nominal charge. The hotel is immaculately clean and well positioned in Machico, which has some splendid little restaurants and cafes. Food served in the hotel, although somewhat unimaginative, was very reasonable. Transport links to Funchal are excellent with a vey reliable and efficient bus service. Taxi are ubiquitous and reasonably priced. We met one traveller who always chose to stay at the Dom Pedro because he felt the White Waters was far 'too clinical.' This was not our impression at all and we would definitely return.

“Great, quiet place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

I stayed mid October during a side trip from my visit to mainland Portugal. I had no idea how congested and "touristy" Funchal was and am very fortunat that I had chosen to stay in Machico and at White Waters. The hotel looks fairly new. Whomever chose the furniture and fixtures has a very good eye for a beautiful modern look. The food is good and the location is convenient. Contrary to previous reviews, it was a quiet restful place. The staff, particularly Gabrielle, couldn't have been more solicitous and helpful beginning with my first inquiries about reserving a room to arranging a taxi back to the airport to leave. Given the opportunity again, I would not hesitate to stay at White Waters.
