I checked in a bit after midnight in 94 degree weather (there was a heat wave occurring). My room was 94 degrees when I got to it (no fan on). After leaving the AC on for about 10 minutes I had to ask the front desk for a fan. He nicely gave me one and was concerned that it was really rough quality. It was in terrible repair and dirty but I was so happy to have a fan, I didn't. Once it cooled down I was able to go to sleep. Then, about 3am, the headboard fell off the wall! Not on me, but still!
I stayed here because I wanted to see the ocean before I headed inland to a conference at W&M. I was on foot and was meeting some people that afternoon. Checkout is 11am sharp. So, I went to the front desk and asked if I could stay until 2pm for an extra charge. He called someone and spoke to them in Hindi? and then told me $50! So I said, no thanks. So I asked if I could leave me luggage with them. NO, he says. Ok. So, where can I get breakfast? 7/11. He honestly told me to go to 7/11! I said, no, for a sit down meal. He says there are taco bells, etc a mile down the street. I point out I am on foot. Hence the request to leave my luggage. Then another guest comes in and he tells me there is a cafe on the other side of the building next door (which is closer than the 7/11 BTW). So here I go, dragging my luggage down the street to a tiny little cafe. I eventually drug my luggage down to the beach and hung out. It was pretty but the heat wave made it awfully uncomfortable to be stuck outside for a number of hours (the locals all told me it was unseasonably warm).
As I was dragging my luggage down the street, I saw the Travelers Inn advertising for 1/2 of what I paid at Ocean View and less than Ocean View wanted for half a day. I felt like quite a schmuck at that point.
Oh. And the pool was covered with a tarp and obviously never open.
Quite simply, don't stay here. The night guy was nice but would probably frighten most people as he was covered in tattoos (up the neck and down the fingers). The day guy was just plain malevolent. The goal of the establishment is clearly to extract as much money for as little as possible. While I did not expect anything fancy, given the rate and the area, I did expect to be treated with a bit of decency.
