“Breakfast Blues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2009

Bear with me on this one, you need to picture the situation first. We first arrived in Arabba (4 lads on a walking/via ferrata trip) late on a Thursday night, without a hotel to stop in. We planned on sleeping in the car as we thought we would not arrive till around 3am. We stumbled earlier than planned, at 12.30am, into the only bar open in the area and the friendly barman served us a few beers. After explaining that we were only booked into the Mesdi from Friday till Tuesday, he called some bloke at the Olympia Hotel who put us up for the night for €25 each inc breakfast. Miles better than cramped in a obnoxious smelling Fiat Punto. Breakfast at the Olympia was not fantastic but the usual continental breaky with a nifty egg boiling pan that made perfect boiled eggs. Happy days. Then we checked out and went to The Mesdi. Our rooms werent ready but that was acceptable as it was only 10am so we scooted off and came back around 4pm.
The first night in the Mesdi was fine, €48p/p/p/n inc evening meal which was fine, as were all the evening meals. Rooms ok, cracking view and in a good spot. Arabba's on a hill as are most of the towns in the area, so if your not a hill type person stick to beach holidays to save your little legs. The spa area was great, though the changing facilities were a bit odd, just one room without a doorlock. Still ok though. Breakfast Saturday morning was ok but not an egg in site, nor any fresh fruit an the toaster was on the blink, still managable though. On the Sunday morning toaster was goosed. 'Packio upio' the lady said. We also noticed that as there were only a few guests the less choice of food we had to eat. I just had a bowl of muesli. There was bread in the bowl but no butter. Couldnt be bothered complaining as it wasnt a massive issue. Mondays breakfast was the same so Tuesday I stopped in bed to aviod it.
All in all, the staff were great, rooms ok, eve meal really tasty, sauna fine, location fine, but breakfasts dreadful. And its hard to do a dreadful continental breakfast as they are usually rubbish anyway. I would give them the benefit of the doubt though and would recommend this hotel. Cheers kids.....!

“A great hotel”

We stayed here for 5 nights in August. We arrived in a bad mood in the rain after a long journey from southern Italy but spirits rose as soon as we saw Arabba and the hotel, and stayed high thereafter. The other reviews are correct: this is an excellent example of a small hotel. It's very clean and neat with friendly and very professional staff and good food. We were very pleased with our room and its large balcony, though it gets only the morning sun.
We had half board which was good value. Arabba is a good centre for a summer holiday and not as crowded and 'trippery' as some other resorts appeared.
Two tips; GOOD do try the cable car up from the village. There's a very good contour walk with fantastic views of the Marmalada range. BAD don't aim to travel on the weekends straddling the feast of the assumption (known as Ferragosto in Italy). Traffic is horrendous.

“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2008

What can i say that has not been said before! We read the reviews and were not dissapointed. All that was said about the food, the rooms, the staff was spot on and even better than expected.
Mickeys bar & grill under the hotel was a perfect spot for an after dinner drink and a place to meet new friends.
The terrace at the front was a wonderful place to sit, chill, and enjoy watching the motorbikes negotiating the corner lol!!
And the lovely sitting area inside the hotel was perfect for a quiet drink and chat.
The wellness area was wonderful, the waterbeds especially!
The hotel is an excellant base for exploring the Italian Dolomites, especilly by motorbike (although it is also brill for walkers and cyclists to). The town is small, but still has enough bars and restaraunts for a good night out.

“This new hotel is a real gem!”

We have just returned from a fabulous 5 night stay at Hotel Mesdi . This hotel is truly a gem!!!!! The rooms are spacious, inpecably clean and modern since this hotel is just a few years old.....we have stayed in other mountain resort hotels which have had that musty, damp smell so staying in this practically brand new hotel was an absolute joy!!!! The hotel is small so you never get the crowded feeling you get in a larger hotel, which made it totally relaxing. We had breakfast and dinner included....the food was fantastic...a buffet breakfast and a 3 course dinner PLUS a fantastic sald bar!!!! There was a choice of 3 or 4 main course and appetizer items which were all top-notch (homemade soup, rolled veal, beef and grilled chicken were all so delicous!) and it varied every day so you didn't get bored with the same food!!! We had the house wine with dinner which was fantastic! The staff were all extremely helpful and polite..gave us an area map with suggestions and routes to various activities. This is a top-notch hotel which we highly recommend!!!!

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2007

The Mesdi is a small family run hotel located directly opposite the ski lift, so perfect if you are a beginner like some of our group were.

The rooms are of a reasonable size with sufficient wardrobe and hanging space. The beds are very comfortable and so too are the pillows. The sofa bed in our family room was a bit on the small size for our very tall 11 year old, so if you have teenagers it might be best to book two rooms budget allowing.

The ensuites are small but modern, well equipped and very clean. The showers are powerful and hot. I'm not sure if any of the rooms have bath. However, the wellness centre is great with a large hot tub, sauna and steam room, so you really won't miss not having a bath.

The staff are very attentive, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. You are very much treated as a member of the family rather than a paying guest. The owners are perfect hosts.

The food is good but the wine list was a little limited, not that this bothered us at all. There isn't really a bar area as such which would be nice when meeting up before dinner. Nevertheless, we managed and it didn't spoil our enjoyment.

We have stayed here for two years running and are going back in December and again next March.

Arabba itself is a fantastic resort as it's not too big and never gets really crowded. The ski instructors all speak very good English and teach to a very high standard. The ski lifts are well operated and manned by charming attendants who are only too happy to help the more modest skier like myself on and off if necessary.

Not having a green run could put a lot of beginners off of Arabba, but it really doesn't matter. The blue runs are very gentle and if nothing else it progresses you quicker.

All in all the Medsi is a gem of a hotel. Long may they continue to keep the high standards and genuine hospitality they are so renowned for.
