In my many years of traveling in Italy, I have never had a worse cup of cappuccino.
While that may sound trivial, it is a metaphor for the quality and authenticity of this place: an Italian who doesn't know how to make or serve a decent espresso does not belong in the business of representing his country.
The first indication that we might not be on our way to an authentic agriturismo was the enormous, tacky, ostentatious sign on the autostrada: 'Benvenuti a Agriturismo Gigliotto', at least 10'x15', prominently displayed on a little hill next to the autostrada, like a billboard on a US freeway.
The actual room in which we stayed was clean (despite the obvious unlaundered state of the bedspread), very spacious, and functional; but it had as much charm and personality as a Ramada Inn. In addition, there were construction workers working directly outside our patio, so we had to close our curtains to the view of the 'farm'. The capper was the 'soap' that was provided in the bathroom: a half-full container of watered-down liquid detergent of some sort, so diluted as to be useless.
The breakfast was plentiful, but neither fresh, interesting, nor even typically Sicilian. Packaged pastries, packaged store-bought cakes (still in their foil plates!), packaged yogurt, packaged cereal, canned peaches...and that sadly mediocre cappuccino.
How the ownership is getting away with promoting itself as an agriturismo is beyond me. I would neither stay here again, nor would I encourage anybody else to do so. This place is a sham. It is about as authentic as Disneyland is.
