My stay at the Kranenturm was at the start of a 2 month trip around Europe, and turned out to be the highlight of the places I stayed, largely due to the warmth and friendly care of Fatima, Kurt and their team. Fatima was an attentive, kind and generous host, and Kurt the charming and very good cook largely behind the scenes in the kitchen. The buffet breakfasts were substantial and delicious and the dinners on offer in the restaurant were also very good. Fatima’s chats with me and introductions to other guests during breakfast and the 3 or so times I ate in the restaurant at night were much appreciated, as at that point I was travelling on my own. I had chosen Bacharach and the Kranenturm on the basis of trip advisor reviews and travel forum comments, and am glad to say that the recommendations were spot on. I am a light sleeper but was not disturbed by the trains that run directly next to the hotel at all - I think they are electric and they are very quiet. The hotel location means you do have views of the river, and it was wonderfully relaxing to watch the variety of water craft travelling up and down the river, and makes it a very short walk to the dock where the river ferries leave from. The hotel is also well situated for travel by train, as it is...My stay at the Kranenturm was at the start of a 2 month trip around Europe, and turned out to be the highlight of the places I stayed, largely due to the warmth and friendly care of Fatima, Kurt and their team. The hotel is also well situated for travel by train, as it is only a 3-5 minute flat walk to the train station. The hotel building itself is every bit as charming as the hosts, with genuine historic character that I found was largely lacking in many other places or which came with a much heftier price tag than the Kranenturm. Bacharach is a delightful town, with many beautiful timbered buildings and with all the facilities needed as base from which to explore the Rhine River / Moselle River area. A big thank you to Fatima and Kurt and team for making my stay so enjoyable.More
