I stayed here as part of a race team so we had a large block of rooms. The renovations are still in progress per the previous posters.

We stayed in Room 309. Even though the floor has signs everywhere stating it is non-smoking (even on the door), the hallway and especially the room had the stench of a 7 day old ashtray. It was so bad, it literally took your breath away.

The pillows, sheets and towels all smelled like smoke. After two nights, the clothes I didn't wear all smelled like smoke. Everything had to go into the laundry. If the window had been operable, I would have left it open.

Oddly, there were four ashtrays in a non-smoking room.

The decor is decent and the flat panel TV nice, although it is not in HD. The staff was pleasant. The room was clean, it just stunk!

All rooms are and some already have been updated to very nice "Sheik" decor. Very clean staff is excellent, many admenities, and the boardwalk out back of the hotel allows you to veiw the river and even walk down a very nice trail, for walkers and bikers that love the outdoors. Pets welcome as of now, with a 10.00 fee per night, but they were freindly to my dog. There is a deck at back to grill on that sits right above the river. Very nice place highly reccomend.

I would never stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Danville again. I booked the room 5 months in advance and clearly stated that I wanted a non-smoking room. When we arrived at the hotel at about 7:00pm we were told that we were in a smoking room. They told us that we booked a smoking room through priceline. There is not a chance in hell that this would be the case as smoking is my pet hate. We of course complained and they said that there were no other rooms available and told us that we had booked the wrong room type. By now we were angry and tired and there was not much we could do. After some arguments we carried our bags up the stairs as there were no elevators and opened the door to the room. OMG it was the most disgusting smell I have ever smelt. It was crossed between a smokey pub and cheap perfume. The temp was in the 90's, so the room was stuffy and opening the windows didnt help as it was backed onto the pool areas where smokers were gathered. The smell was so bad that I had to spray my Calvin Klein perfume on everything and had to sleep with s perfume soaked t-shirt around my face just to get through the night. To make matters worse, next to the bed was a half eaten cookie and empty cigarette wrapper and in the bathroom was something smeared on the walls and hair all over the floor. I considered sleeping in the car. All other hotels in the area were booked so we were stuck. I didnt get any sleep because the smell was just so bad and in the morning I felt like I had smoked a pack of cigarettes. We left the room and checked out of the hotel at 6:00am because we couldnt stand it. It was the worst room I have ever stayed in and would not go back. Word of warning even if you book months in advance, you need to ring the day before or day of to ensure you are getting what you paid and asked for. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED

Flat screen TV, rooms well-appointed with microwave and refrigerator. Beds were very comfortable. Pool area was clean and well-maintained. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Hotel is being remodeled so there were no rooms available on first floor.

The only complaint is that the staff should have warned us that the remodeling work would begin early the next morning with what sounded like a jackhammer going off in the walls. The noise and vibration was unbelievable. We ended up leaving earlier than we had planned.

Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. Apart from the remodeling noise it was of the best hotel experiences I have ever had.
