Hampton Inns are invariably top notch, especially in the areas of staff friendliness, complimentary breakfast, and quality/appearance of the rooms.
I would say this particular hotel hit two out of three. Staff was great and breakfast very good. The room, however, desperately needed to be repainted. The wall as you came into the room was very badly and very widely scuffed. Just not what I've come to expect. I mentioned it on the way out to the desk clerk.
Certainly not a show stopper; but, it I find myself in the area again, will likely opt for the nearby Hilton Garden Inn.
I would say they are equidistant from Old Town Petersburg, if that's one of your decision factors in selecting a hotel.

We had numerous members of our family stay at the Hampton Inn for the funeral, and we were very well taken care of. The staff exceeded our expectations to make our stay comfortable. It is a very convenient location to Petersburg, Richmond and Colonial Heights.
i will be back there in Oct. and am looking forward to it.

My fiancee and I were very disappointed in this Hampton Inn, usually they're pretty good. Our room smelled musty, the shower doors were jammed and were hard to move, the bathroom door stop was laying on the floor, and some of the furniture was stained. She used the lobby bathroom in the morning and there was no tissue in one of the stalls and the mop pail was left in the middle of the corridor.

We notified the front desk of our concerns and they gave us a $25 gift certificate to Olive Garden, which was very nice, but we'll never stay there again.

The staff was extremely friendly and they provided some delicious snacks as a result of having to wait for my room. The room was very clean and comfortable. The next day I had breakfast and they had an outstanding spread. I am definitely coming back.
