“Nice Stay for this Overnight Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We had to stay here because we had lost electricity due to a wind storm last week...

The hotel was very accommodating in getting last minute availability, because of my Hilton Diamond Honors Status..

Check-in was a breeze and the best thing is the indoor pool & fitness center for the kids and the nice Steakhouse directly next door to the Hotel.

Just for people that aren't familiar with the area since we live only 20 minutes from this hotel:

Hotel is located a mere 2-3 minutes from Interstate 64 Exit 124....
Hotel is located a mere 2-3 minutes from Pantops Shopping Center with all types of stores and grocery stores and gas stations & pharmacies...
Hotel is located about 5-10 minutes from downtown Charlottesville...

There is a lot of traffic during the normal times (morning, lunch & evening) but other times it is very smooth...

Would stay here again if I had family in town that needed a hotel...

“Staff was wonderful.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I thought the hotel was wonderful. Room was very nice and really clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Had a very relaxing time there.
I do have one complaint when I reserved the room they had on a brochure that the beds were adjustable bed. That is the reason we stayed there.I got one room with 2 queens. I have a medical problem and my husband is looking into getting an adjustable bed and I wanted to try one out first. That night I did noticed the bed wasnt adjustable.I went downstairs and asked about it and they said only on king beds.Well it was just my sister and myself staying and I didnt want to share a bed with her.She kicks.LOL. I even showed the front desk lady where it even shows on brochure that the beds are adjustable. It didnt mention only king. Well for me I was very disapointed and I hate to say this but the front desk lady didnt seem to care. She was very nice but that didnt help.I thought she could have asked me if I wanted to switch to a king I might have done it but it didnt seem like an option. I did asked could the manager call me because we are coming back first week in March and I wanted to see best option because then I will be bringing my sister, neice and her daughter.Well manager never called me and I went by desk twice to go out and each time the lady would say didnt have time yet to talk to manager.Well no one was every at front desk. Now my sister loved the bed but like I said I have medical problems so I have a hard time finding a good bed.
Again the hotel was well worth the price and it was very clean.Location was awesome for us.The only thing bad was my personel problem and I didnt like that the manager didnt call me we were there 2 days.Had plenty of time.I do feel if they say they have something to offer and they dont they should address it.I even have the brochure that is in the room that says these beds are adjustable. My sister and I looked those beds over. lol.
Love trip advisor because they helped me get this room by what was written on their web page and I agree it was worth staying . Thanks Penny

Room Tip: All rooms were great.Never heard anything.

Penny,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our hotel! I'm so glad to see that overall you enjoyed your stay with us. I do apologize for the confusion about your bed not being one of our Garden Sleep System beds. It can be a little misleading because Hilton Garden Inn's all use the same brochure which says that we feature the Garden Sleep System beds, however it doesn't give us to option to specify which beds have those mattresses and which don't. Our hotel was designed to feature our king beds with the Garden Sleep System mattresses and our queen beds with standard mattresses. As long as we have the availability, we are happy to move our guests to different rooms where they can have the bed size (king or queen) or mattress type that they prefer. I am sorry that you weren't offered that option, that was an oversight on our part, and if you stay with us again I would be happy to make sure that you get the room type that you prefer. We hope to have you back with us again soon, and if there are any other questions I can answer, please don't hesitate to let me know!

“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

people found this review helpful

This hotel has a lot to commend it: The bed is comfortable, the room is clean, and the staff attentive. Its a relatively new property and located in a nicely maintained corporate park.

I did not give this hotel 5 stars because those commendable items don't add up to a great experience -- there are a number of little items that detract from the experience. Breakfast is not free with your room, which is fine, but the way the staff tells you about the breakfast policy is confusing to say the least, I asked for a clarification and though that some was compelentary and some was not. I was wrong. In our suite, we had two tvs. One of the tvs had HD and many channels, and the other did not. It took us a while to figure out that the TVs were different. Also the beds have nice controls, but it took a while to figure that out as well.

Would consider coming back.

Room Tip: face the pond out back if you can.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out a review of our property! I'm so glad to see that you enjoyed your stay with us! We really appreciate your kind words about the hotel and our staff. I wanted to take just a moment to address the comments you had regarding breakfast, the televisions and the bed in your room.

It is a standard at Hilton Garden Inn's that we do not offer complimentary breakfast along with your room. However, we do offer a full cook to order breakfast for $9.95, and we offer a continental version for $5.95. We do our best to explain upon checkin and again at breakfast in the morning that the continental version offers all of the cold items on our bar, as well as all of our pastries and danishes, and our hot oatmeal. The full hot breakfast offers everything that the continental features, as well as all of the items on our hot buffet like scrambled eggs, bacon and hashbrowns, and cook to order omelettes and waffles.

As far as the televisions in your suite, they both should have been working exactly the same, so I apologize that one wasn't working properly. We recently had all of our televisions replaced with brand new LG HD televisions. As with most new things, we've experienced a few glitches with our HD channels, where occasionally they aren't coming through the way they should. As soon as we realized there was a problem, we have been doing daily checks of all of our televisions to make sure the channels are working properly. We will continue to monitor the channels closely just as a precaution, but we don't anticipate any further issues to affect our guests.

I'm sorry it took a few minutes to figure out how to use the controls for the Garden Sleep System bed in your room. All of our king beds do feature the Garden Sleep System, and therefore they are adjustable to the comfort of each individual guest. The controls are located on either side of the head of the bed underneath the fitted sheet, and can be adjusted to make the mattress softer or firmer. It is an air pocket system, so it does take a few minutes for the pockets to fill up with air and become firmer or let some air out to become softer. It also doesn't make any noise, so you won't hear it as it is adjusting.

Hopefully that helps explain everything that you had concerns about. We have a great hotel here along with a great staff, and we hope that you will come back and stay with us again soon!

“Good for an overnight stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

I stayed here for a pitstop on the way to Cincinatti. A very nice executive style hotel coupled with helpful and attentive staff made my overnight stay very comfortable. The rooms are clean and of a generous size. Highly recommended if you find yourself out this way.

“Consistent HGI Quality with Some Wear and Tear”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

Had a productive and relaxing stay at this HGI. Reliably comfortable bed and productive work space/internet access. Staff was attentive and breakfast was in line with the HGI experience - decent quality, good variety and tolerable coffee. The property is set back from the road so it's quiet aside from the door-slamming guests who seem to follow me everywhere.

My only complaint was in the condition of the carpeting in my room. There were a variety of stains in multiple locations, making me question the overall cleanliness of the room. Rooms need to be clean first, quiet second, and then everything else is a distant third. Not sure if I'd go back or look for other options.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out a review of our hotel! I'm glad to see that overall you enjoyed your stay with us! I appreciate you bringing the condition of the carpet in your room to our attention. We do shampoo the carpets in all of our rooms on a regular basis, and we spot treat stains in between shampoos as well, so this is something we'll take a look at and address promptly. We hope you will give us another chance to show you what an excellent property and staff we have here at the Hilton Garden Inn in Charlottesville, and stay with us again in the future.
