“Nice, clean room but nothing spectacular...”

I stayed here for 4 nights in December while my father was in the hospital at UVA. I called the hospital to see what the closest hotel was & they told me about Red Roof Inn & told me to ask for the UVA discount. When I called & reserved my room, they told me they had given me the discount. It can't be much of a discount because when I looked the hotel up on websites such as travelocity, it was basically the same price. Check in a breeze and all the staff I had contact with were exceptionally friendly. The room itself had recently been updated. New carpets & new flat screen tv. Maid service was great! I spent all day at the hospital & would return at night to a clean room. The best thing about this hotel is location, location, location. I flew to Charlottesville from KC & was within walking distance to the hospital which saved me from having to rent a car. There were restaurants directly beside the hotel & a convenience store about 3 doors down. The cons about this hotel (and the only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars) was there was no continental breakfast (which almost all hotels provide these days), no mini fridge in the room, and I felt the cost was a little high considering these things were not available. Overall, I would stay here again due to the convenience of the location.

One quick tip: If you are staying here due to having a family member in the hospital, call the hospital & inquire about the "hospitality house." A nurse at the hospital told me about it & said it is very nice & a TON cheaper. They also have a shuttle that will take you to & from the hospital. It is approx $10 a night so that would save you about $65 a night if you chose to go that route.

Room Tip: The parking garage is only 3 levels. If you stay in a room on a higher floor then you will have to...

“Best Red Roof Inn I've ever stayed in!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012 via mobile

I have always been a fan of RRI's as a good "cheap" hotel, but this one blew me away!
On arrival, I was greeted by friendly desk staff who efficiently got me checked in. My room was quite large and very clean. The floor actually looked clean enough to eat off of!
The hotel is located eight next to campus and all the medical center buildings. It was very easy to get to my desired location.
The bed was comfy, but a bit firm. The comforter was kind of ugly, but one again the sheets were clean and crisp.
At checkout I was again impressed by the kind desk staff and the efficiency with which they took care of me.

Pros: clean, comfortable, close to campus, super nice staff
Cons: pretty hefty cab fare to and from airport. I wish they had a shuttle.

All in all, while RRI always seems like a good for the price hotel, this one went above and beyond. Great value for the money- I would definitely stay again!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I will pass along your sentiments to my staff regarding how they made you feel. It is always nice to get positive feedback. Our hotel will be renovated either late fall of 2012 or in 2013 so some of the items you mentioned that didn't quite meet with your approval will be addressed at that time.

We know you have many options for hotels so thank you for choosing us. If you travel requires you to return to Charlottesville we truly hope that you will allow us to serve again.

“No frills rooms in great location for UVA and nightlife”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We are familiar with UVA and stayed here after a day of wine tasting because we wanted to be close to restaurants and nightlife on the Corner and the UVA grounds. Of all the hotels in the area, this one and the Cavalier Inn (Best Western) are in the best location for both of these things.

Service was good, parking garage was great, and bathroom was generally clean. The double room was quite large, if you are thinking you'll need to bring in a pull-out bed. The beds were pretty rough, and the room had not been cleaned too thoroughly. It had a bit more of a dingy feel than you'd expect from the price, even though the rate was better than that of football game weekends.

Overall, nothing wrong with this hotel, and the location can't be beat, but don't expect any frills.

Ms. DixieWanderer,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our hotel. We know you have many hotel options so thank you for choosing us. Yes, we are in a fabulous location, the "Corner District" and yes, we are an economy hotel brand, therefore, we do not offer some of the amenities that one might expect from a limited or full service hotel. Our will pass along your praises and opportunities to our staff. If your travels bring you to Charlottesville again we would love the opportunity to serve you even better on your next stay.

Regards,

“UVA Hospital patients/families can get reduced rates here!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

This is a pretty nice hotel on the inside - very clean. Parking is free and in the middle of chatlottesville. The outside of the hotel is beautiful but the parking area is a bit scary. Our room had a one cup coffee maker, free wifi, large flat screen and daily maid service with clean towels. Staff pretty good and housekeeping swooped in and out of our room like magic. UVa Hosp. Patients and families can get a special rate and the hotel is within walking distance of the hospital. Recommend!

“Very comfortable at a stressful time.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

Our hotel room was quite adequate. It was not fancy, but very clean and the staff was very helpful. As we were there for a medical appointment, the comfort and warmth was very important. The room had a faint odor when we arrived, but after settling in, was not noticable. A survey was sent TODAY, so I'm wandering if the odor issue will be addressed. My guess is, it will! The hotel is very convenient to UVA.
