I stayed here for 4 nights in December while my father was in the hospital at UVA. I called the hospital to see what the closest hotel was & they told me about Red Roof Inn & told me to ask for the UVA discount. When I called & reserved my room, they told me they had given me the discount. It can't be much of a discount because when I looked the hotel up on websites such as travelocity, it was basically the same price. Check in a breeze and all the staff I had contact with were exceptionally friendly. The room itself had recently been updated. New carpets & new flat screen tv. Maid service was great! I spent all day at the hospital & would return at night to a clean room. The best thing about this hotel is location, location, location. I flew to Charlottesville from KC & was within walking distance to the hospital which saved me from having to rent a car. There were restaurants directly beside the hotel & a convenience store about 3 doors down. The cons about this hotel (and the only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars) was there was no continental breakfast (which almost all hotels provide these days), no mini fridge in the room, and I felt the cost was a little high considering these things were not available. Overall, I would stay here again due to the convenience of the location.
One quick tip: If you are staying here due to having a family member in the hospital, call the hospital & inquire about the "hospitality house." A nurse at the hospital told me about it & said it is very nice & a TON cheaper. They also have a shuttle that will take you to & from the hospital. It is approx $10 a night so that would save you about $65 a night if you chose to go that route.
