“Location Good, Clean Room, Just Rather Collegiate in Feel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Close to campus, clean room, good linens. Friendly at the desk. But my guess is the building was built in the 50s or 60s, and is a bit worn-- sort of a motor lodge ambiance, if you will. Self serve breakfast buffet is adequate but not memorable. If you're not looking to spend much time in the room, it will do just fine and the price we paid was reasonable (and reflects what you're buying).

“Great hotel for the price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We booked this hotel on a last minute stay in Charlottesville. We got a great rate of $60 including tax and breakfast for two. The service at check in was nice. After getting to our room we realized this was a motel that has been closed in to now seem more like a hotel. The rooms have been updated as far as decorations and bedding goes, but the bathroom is older and what you would expect of a hotel. For the rate we paid though everything was great, the only compaint I would have is that the mattress was pretty uncomfortable and this coming from a girl who has travelled extensively in China where they believe the firmer the bed the better.
Breakfast the next morning was nothing special, but good. The location is excellent and we were able to take a short walk to the UVA campus for dinner. If the rate were the same I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“Not bad...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I recently stayed one night at the Cavalier Inn, when I attended a concert at John Paul Jones Arena. It is convenient to the Arena, which was nice. Check in was smooth. The room was clean, however, there was some mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, but overall I didn't have a problem with the room. The beds were comfortable. The small fridge in the room, didn't seem to have any chill to it...but I won't complain to much about that, since I didn't need to use it.. I wasn't impressed with the continental breakfast...Not much selection, the waffles were sticking to the iron, and the danishes seemed dry...so we ate elsewhere. If ever attending another event at John Paul Jones, I would certainly consider staying here again. They have done a nice job on renovating this much older hotel.

Room Tip: Since this is a non-smoking hotel...if you wish to go outside to smoke, be sure to request a room on...

Hello

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review for us, I am sorry that you felt the continental breakfast was not up to your standards, we are constantly changing items and brands on our breakfast bar, Waffles sticking might be nit enough of the spray was used, the irons are cleaned everyday so it has not oils on it when starting a new day. I hope that you will come back and visit us again so you can see and experience everything including new breakfast items.

“Fantastic location!”

My family and I stayed at the Cavalier Inn for five days this past week. The location at the University of Virginia is the reason we selected this property, and we were very pleased with the proximity of the hotel to the university. It is literally a five-minute walk to the Rotunda and a few more minutes to the Corner, seven blocks of restaurants, night spots, and shopping. It is also a lovely 20 to 30-minute walk to the Historic Downtown Mall.

Although the room itself could have used a few minor repairs, such as the door knob and hooks in the bathroom, the room was tastefully decorated, very clean, and had comfortable beds. The breakfast was more than adequate with waffles, cereal, toast, muffins, juices, fruit, and coffee. There is restaurant next door called the Villa Diner that had excellent pizza and chocolate cake. I know that doesn't sound too healthy, but it was delicious! They also have many other menu options that were on the healthier side.

The front desk staff was very pleasant. Parking was easy in an outdoor lot next to the hotel. The price for the stay was reasonable as we received a group rate and there were no major conflicting events that weekend at the university. We were able to park our car on the first day and walk to almost every event we had planned.

All in all, it was a lovely stay at the Cavalier Inn, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit UVA or Charlottesville.

Room Tip: We preferred the rooms facing the university and a sports field, as they had a hallway to the rooms...

I was impressed with our stay. Room was comfortable and had nice updated decor. Absolutely great location if attending a UVA event. Good breakfast however it may be time to buy a new waffle iron.
