“Great location, very helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed at the Inn last week on business for 2 nights. I chose it because of the proximity to the downtown area. It was two small blocks to the pedestrian mall, where there were several restaurants and shops. I felt very safe walking there alone. The Inn was nice and my room was decorated beautifully. I was worried about the train, but it didn't bother me at all. The only thing that did bother me was the heater. It was very loud and it was difficult to get the room the right temperature.

This was my first trip to Charlottesville and the ladies at the desk were very helpful. They gave great advice on restaurants and things to see and helped with directions. The wine and cheese in the afternoon was a nice touch and the cheeses were excellent. Breakfast was also very good. Overall, a great experience and I would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask if there are rooms with updated heaters, mine was very loud and hard to control.

“South Street Inn revisited”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We returned to the inn this past weekend to enjoy at night of music at the Jefferson Theatre, located on the downtown mall. Our stay was very enjoyable. The evening's wine and cheese tray was very nice and likewise the morning's continental breakfast. There was a wide variety of choices for breakfast. Our room was very clean and spacious and we enjoyed the room's a gas fireplace. This was our third stay at the inn over the past two plus years and we love it its charm and location.

“Could not have been better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I was in Charlottesville for one night and decided to go the B&B route rather than an impersonal hotel/motel and could not have been more pleased with my decision and selection. The Inn is charming and comfortable. The staff is superb!! They were friendly, kind, helpful and knowledgeable! Cookies at check-in, wine & cheese in the evening and a wonderful breakfast spread in the morning. If I am back in C'ville, I will definitely go back!

“Comfortable place”

We just stayed for one night and it was a comfortable stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The wine and cheese in the evening was a nice touch. Breakfast had a lot of options for continental, many home baked breads. There were always homemade cookies or brownies and fruit to snack on during the day or evening. Just a few things to consider: the cargo trains run right behind the Inn, you will hear them and feel them. Also may we suggest you try not to stay in ground level rooms, they were still nice rooms but basically in the basement with windows but also had a basement smell - the cottage ground floor level is also the laundry room area for the Inn. We had a couple of great meals, lunch at Orzo Kitchen and Wine Bar and dinner at the 200 South St brewery. Price of the Inn was reasonable as it was the middle of winter.

Room Tip: Don't get a ground floor room, basically they are in the basement. Stick with Main Floor or Sec...

“Charming B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

My boyfriend and I wanted a quick weekend getaway from DC and came across the South Street Inn. The Inn definitely lived up to the great reviews we'd read. Nightly wine and cheese hours, unique rooms, comfortable beds... all just a few blocks from the historic downtown.
