The Old Town Farm Inn is a family run B&B about 10 minutes from Okemo in between Chester and Ludlow. The owners Aleks and Michiko moved from NYC 10 years ago to run this B&B. We did not meet Aleks but Michiko is very kind and hospitable.

The inn is an old farm house converted to a B&B. As that, do expect to be in an older building without some of the modern amenities (pool, gym, etc). However, this is a charming house, clean, warm, comfortable, no frills and a great place to relax after skiing. We had the front room with a bathroom and an adjacent room for the kids. Our rooms and bathroom were clean and the beds were fairly comfortable. You do have to watch out for the low ceiling at the stairs. The one drawback with the front room is the road noise at night for those of us not used to traffic noise. If that's a problem ask for rooms in the back. There is a small dining room on site where breakfast and dinner are served. You can go through the kitchen to get to the fireplace and large TV although we couldn't figure out how to turn it on. There is a huge collection of DVD's that you can take back to your room where we watched a bunch of movies.
The hearty breakfast is a great meal to start the day before skiing. All fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. Best bacon I've had. The breakfast doesn't compare to the dinner. Michiko is Japanese whose family had been in the restaurant business in Japan since 1879 or something like that. Each meal is prepared individually with full attention to details. The appetizers were delicious. For entree, I had the signature eel dish that had been served to the emperor. It was very tasty. My wife had the tempura and she said it was one of the best. This is from someone who had spent over 6 months in Japan. Michiko made a special rice noodle dish for my daughter since she's a vegetarian. It was wonderful. My son had great sushi which Michko brings in from Boston. How ironic that we find a great Japanese restaurant in middle of nowhere Vermont. It is also BYOB.

Overall, this was a fun and interesting experience. If you are set on the modern amenities and a five star hotel, this is not for you although you may still be interested in the restaurant. If you are adventurous and open minded and looking for something a little different, you'll want to check this place out especially if you enjoy Japanese food that is more than the standard run of the mill California rolls.

We went up to Vermont this fall to go antiquing with our in-laws and on the recommendation of a friend we tried the Old Town Farm Inn. We're fans of Japanese food and our friend's recommended them very strongly. The inn itself is a converted farmhouse out in the countryside, about 5 miles out of town. Nearby villages are Chester, Weston, Proctorsville, and Grafton. The weekend we went there was a great juried craft fair in Weston. There really is nothing else around then inn though but fields and forest. You can't even see any houses fromthe property Inside, the rooms are not fancy, country decor, nicely appointed, very clean.
It wasn't the rooms that we stayed there for though, It was the food! Michiko is real chef from Japan, and her family has been in the restaurant business for over a hundred years. How she manages to get the quality fish she serves in Vermont of all places is one of life's great mysteries. Their dining room is very typical new England B&B, not at all resembling what we were accustomed to in a Japanese restaurant. Its onthe smallish side, informal, and there were several local couples as well as other inn guests there. It was a very friendly ambiance and very quickly became animated with people conversing with people at other tables. Everything was prepared to order. The appetizers and sushi were exquisite, the salad, with her fresh made dressing was ut of this world and the entree's, while limited really were somethign to write home about. The first night we sampled their broilled eel and broiled salmon dishes, while our in-laws ordered sushi. The second night we opted for their family style sushi special and were overwhelmed. Breakfast was more American farm style, simple, but amazing. The bacon and ham are locally smoked. The eggs are fresh form a farm/market a mile down the road. This market is a year round farmer's market feturing goods from 60 area farms.
One other thing is that they are pet friendly we brought along our dog, and we had to bring a crate for him. But they do charge an extre cleaning fee for the dog.
Its a great place for people who like good food and want to explore the "not in the brochure" Vermont. The price was nice too. If you want things like jacuzzis though, they don't have them. The owners are very friendly, very hospitable and they know their area very well and will gladly point you down those roads less travelled to craftsmen and shops that are off the beaten path and well worth the detour.

The resturant at this inn has great reviews! We made the assumption that the Inn would be just as nice. We were so disappointed. The room was small, the bathroom tiny without even a towel rod. No attention to minor details. Old and worn out. Would not recommend. We paid first night and check out. Owners were pleasant but must be putting all their effort into resturant. Also, tripped going in, driveway all ice and path to back door not shoveled.

We stayed at the Inn & attended a wedding. The rooms were simple but immaculate. Our hosts were very gracious & friendly. The food was out of this world!!! Everything was delicious. The wedding was perfect. We felt very welcomed & at home. Dog friendly too!!! Would highly recommend & can't wait to go back!! Definetly a place not to overlook!! Thank you!!!!
