“Snowbird not for the inexperienced!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed at the cliff lodge for 3 nights. Staff was great. The hotel room was a typical lodge room. Nothing extraordinary but nothing bad. The view was excellent. This is the place to go if you want to experience intense skiing! No nightlife but we we're both exhausted after a long day on the skis. Locker room set up was great. Two negatives.....the chair lift to access the few easier green trails was closed our entire stay. Do not come to sk at snowbird if you are a beginner or intermediate! The second disappointment was the $25 charge to use the gym facility. Just charge me more for the room and give me access to the gym! Overall we came to ski and had a great time!

“Location, location, location......!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed for a long weekend ski trip with some friends. The location of this hotel is absolutely first class. Snowbird is one of the best ski areas in the world and the Cliff Lodge is right on the snow at the gateway to the mountain. Really dosnt get any better.

Access from room, to lockers, to snow, to tram is simple which makes the start and end of your day very, very easy. If I had my kids with me it would have been exactly what I would have wished for - if you ski a lot you know how important this is to your family sanity.

The service was pretty good for such a big hotel and the restaurants were also a high quality for a ski hotel both for food and service. There is a hotel pool and up on Level 9 a Spa for those that like that sort of thing.

The hotel is showing its age but thats not a major issue as everything is clean and well managed. We got a deal that was a major steal by booking way in advance and were really happy with the value for money.

*** BEWARE *** Snowbird and Alta are some of the best ski areas on the face of the planet however if you are not a strong intermediate skier you will not get the most out of this amazing location and you would be happier at Deer Valley if Utah is your destination.

“Skiing family with young children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed one night here with our 5 & 3 year olds, and toddler. The two queen beds with crib were standard size and fine, although there are available suites, etc. The heated pool was great for kids after dinner, and they have a couple of hot tubs. The daycare for the toddler is on site in the basement, and we left her there for the day before the rest of us went skiing. The childrens ski school is a 100 yard walk across a ski-run from the Cliff Lodge, which is slightly challenging if you are wearing shoes with flat soles... The ski teaching is excellent, and both our kids left able to go down green runs doing turns, after having had just a couple lessons before. The only issue is that there is just one appropriate restaurant: it is Mexican, the food is fine, but it is not young-child friendly, as it is somewhat crowded and not particularly spacious. But then again, we were the only family there with young kids that night.
Also, it is just a little bit of a maze getting from one area of the building to another, as the structure has been udated over the years. We got a standard room for one night, which was the cheapest of all the SLC area ski resorts, but was a special fare as usually the resort wants people to stay several nights in a row; also it was not busy. We live a couple hours away and will come down to the different resorts from time to time. The Solitude Village, for me, is more pleasant, with more dining options, a different experience as you stay in a condo complex (less guests for the same pool area), many more young families, but significantly more expensive.

“Skier Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This is an amazing hotel as far as skiing designation is concerned.

Ski in/ski out – you get out of the building and can immediately ski down to three different lifts, servicing all levels of skiing on Snowbird. A small climb can get you to lifts servicing a whole new area of the mountain. And if that is too much work for you, the bell desk can send you to any base in a shuttle. There is also a free shuttle bus to Alta. (Keep in mind, though that Alta does not allow snowboarders).

Ski lockers – the best set up I have ever seen. The lockers area is located directly by the exit to the slopes, warm carpeted area, plenty of bench space to gear up, lockers easily accessible, attendant around to help with locking codes (self- selected) etc.

Lift ticket office is located on the premises, near the lockers. No waiting outside in the cold. You can get your lift ticket and trail map before you put the jacket on. And the staff is local and knowledgeable about the mountain, so you get your directions to the best slopes of the day while you are at it.

Hot tubs: amazing setting on the roof with a heated pool and a gigantic hot tub. Another one is on the third floor. All opened till 10PM. The roof hot tub and pool are a part of the Cliff Spa: very relaxing area, recently renovated. It offers anything one can wish for in a spa: besides the pool and hot tub there is gym, steam room and a solarium. Locker rooms have spacious shower stalls and a sauna. Anything you may need is provided from robes and sandals to plush towels, lotions etc.

Eating options: there are plenty and the concierge can help with reservations. We mostly cooked for ourselves as our unit came with full kitchen. But we had drinks at El Chanate, along with a $1 tacos and we liked it. Pizza place (Tram Car) delivers to the room, but for a NY/NJ resident pizza was only so-so. Room service is an option, but a very pricey one, so we didn’t try it.

Rooms: very comfortable and functional, plenty of storage space, big closets, dressers etc. Flat screen TV in each room. Our kitchen came fully equipped with pots, pans, silverware, wine glasses etc. The tea kettle was a bit warped, but functional. Also provided were humidifiers.
Housekeeping: we found them very responsive. One call and whatever we needed was brought to the door within minutes.

If you venture away from Cliff, have a phone number handy for the bell desk. Should you need transportation back, they will send a vehicle to pick you up.

We managed to spend the whole week without a car. We did not want the hassle of driving a rental on the snowy canyon road. Canyon Transportation and Alta Shuttle (which also stops at Snowbird) both have reasonably priced airport transportation ($34-$36 each way). Alta shuttle also has a private SUV option for $140 (one way). That's the option we chose for getting to Cliff Lodge, because included in the price is a 15 min shopping stop along the way.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor for better views. One side faces the Snowbird, the other Canyon road. In my o...
