Stopped here on a road trip to Las Vegas. The evening clerk was cordial but was hesitant to offer discounts, even AAA,which was just weird. When I finally managed the discount, it was all of $3.40 on a $70 room, but I was too road-weary to argue at that point.
He did honor our request to be on the top floor so we wouldn't have other guests stomping on the ceiling...but that was a small concession. The walls and floors in this place are so thin, location didn't matter. We heard the people below us and beside us and anyone who stepped into the hallway sounded like they were in the room. Elevator dinging, doors shutting and people walking--not a hope of quiet sleep in this building.
The rooms were clean and orderly. Decent hot water and pressure in the shower. The toilet made an awful noise when flushing and then didn't really flush all that well; usually took 2 shots to get it done. Ceiling fan in the bathroom did not work at all and the sun lamp wouldn't stay on for more than about 2 minutes, regardless of what the dial said. Very little counter space in the bathroom as well.
Our frustration grew when we went down for their breakfast, which the evening clerk had assured us was "excellent" with scrambled eggs, choice of sausage or bacon, plenty of fruit and yogurt, pastries and waffles. We slept in a bit, but went downstairs at 8:50am. There were 3 donuts, a slice of toast, and a fruit bowl, along with a staffer hurriedly cleaning up, shutting off the TV and telling us breakfast was over. What?!?! Seriously...we grabbed an orange, a banana and two tiny cartons of yogurt and fled to our room since the cafeteria area was literally shutting down. No eggs, no waffles, no juice, and no way would this guy make an exception even though we very politely asked, and noted that it wasn't even 9am yet. We managed to get the last of the coffee in the lobby area, which wasn't much, and was very weak.
At the coffee dispensers, we couldn't help but overhear a business woman having an incredibly frustrating experience with the day-shift manager. She was simply requesting a 1-hour extension on her checkout time to handle a business meeting so that she could come back to freshen up before hitting the road. No way, and I mean no compassion, no consideration, no reasonable discussion--more or less the manager said to get out.
Needless to say this was a horrendous experience and we will not be back. There are at least 12 other hotels in this area, and I would think even on a bad day they all have to be better than this place.
Travellers be forewarned.
