Passing through Ogden with our dogs, we decided to stay at the Holiday Inn Express just off the expressway. With a convenient location and a great pet policy, this seemed like a promising place to spend the night. We've had some very good experiences with Holiday Inn Express, so our expectations were perhaps a bit too high.
Climbing up the stairway to the top floor, we noticed a definite smell of cigarette smoke, which was confirmed when we found a cigarette butt left on the carpet on the landing. Most likely some guest had decided it was easier to smoke in the stairway rather than face the cold outside, but it seemed like it might have been there for a while without being noticed by the staff. Certainly the smell made a bad first impression on us.
We found our room to be pretty standard HI Express, but a bit more worn than we expected. The bed and pillows seemed a bit less comfortable than they typically are. When we arrived, the Wi-Fi connection wasn't working properly, but they got it up and running again once we put in a call to the technical support number that was provided. Finally, the "hot" water should have been labeled as "pretty warm" which made for a disappointing shower.
In summary, this location turned out to be just an average place to spend the night. We may stay here again, but will probably try the Comfort Suites across the parking lot next time.
