“In Need of Renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

My husband and I stayed at this hotel the night before I ran the Logan Marathon. The hotel was full of runners and I was surprised at how little they were willing to do to accommodate us.

The hotel itself is old and run down (all the nice hotels were full because of the marathon). Although the sign says they are renovating, I didn't see any work happening. The room we stayed in (the "suite") was large and ancient, but it was as tidy as they could possibly make something so out of date and worn.

The thing that bothered me most was

#1 The breakfast. The runners needed just a few basic things. I was the first to arrive for breakfast at 4 am so I could catch a little something to eat before the marathon bus came to get us. There were little flies all over the breakfast room and the TWO bagels they had available had several small flies crawling around INSIDE the bag. After seeing that I didn't eat anything there that wasn't pre-wrapped. I ended up with a banana and a pre-wrapped muffin.

#2 Check out
The marathon started at 7am. Average finish time is nearly 4 and a half hours. That puts us back at 11:30. Check out time is 11 am. They extended our time by one hour but were unwilling to budge beyond that. Really? I kind of doubt they were booked for the next night. The guy at the front desk said that if I paid for half day, he would give me until 2 pm. Again, really? If I pay for another half day, I should get HALF the day. After running a marathon (in pouring rain the whole time), I kind of needed a shower. Didn't get one. The marathon runners filled up that hotel. It would have been empty otherwise. A little bit of accommodation would have been nice. I wasn't asking for much.

Oh, and in the corner below all the "suites" is a room that looks like someone lives in permanently. It is fenced off with a bunch of junk out front. The best part? They have a dog that barked all night long (a BIG dog, a golden retriever I think). Sleep is nice before running that far, but the dog had other plans for us.

Needless to say, I don't think we'll be staying there again.

Please accept my apologies for the inconveniences you experienced during the Logan Marathon. You're right, the hotel is in need of renovation, and capital plans are in place.

We've made some major changes to eliminate some of the problems you experienced. In the future, we will be providing earlier, more nutritious breakfast for athletes in major events, such as the Logan Marathon. Secondly, only if the room is needed for new guests arriving, we will reasonably extend check out times.

And - the individual that had the junk outside AND the barking dog are no longer at the property.

I appreciate your comments, I just wish we had provided more comfortable accommodations for you.

Thank you!

“Don't stay here”

We stayed in a kitchenette suite that we had reserved on a weekly rate. In spite of being a non-smoking room it reeked of old cigarette smoke. We found the room coated in a layer of dirt and my wife had to wipe everything down before we moved in. The carpet was filthy; we gave our girls a bath and 20 minutes later their feet were black from walking on the carpet. Some of the employees seemed to care about our concerns but management clearly limited their ability to improve the situation. We asked them to deep clean the adjacent room and let us move in to that one but they weren't willing to go that far. One response was "it's a hotel, what do you expect?" They did vacuum the carpet and spray deodorizer in the room but it didn't help much.

I unwisely paid for the week up front. When I checked out 2 days early they tried to bill me a daily rate and charge me extra; I did the math for them and showed them that they actually owed me a refund. They then changed their mind and charged me the weekly rate and refused to give me a refund.

I appreciate your comments, and apologize we were unable to make your stay a comfortable, satisfactory stay.

There is no excuse your initial room was dirty. The housekeeping supervisor no longer works at the hotel, please accept my apologies.

After researching your stay, I found that there was much more than a vacuum and spray deodorizer in the room. We had one housekeeper work most of the day in that room, to tidy up everything - beds were moved, everything dusted again, everything in the bathroom was cleaned again, all the windows and mirrors touched up, refrigerator cleaned, and I have conflicting reports suggesting the carpet was cleaned with a shampoo machine. After all that cleaning detail, you still refused the room.

Your comments have been helpful - they identify problems not always clearly visible. We have a new manager at the hotel now, and I'm sure she will do what she can to make certain you will have a pleasant stay in the future.

“Good value and would stay there again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

We took an over-nighter to Logan and decided to extend our trip by one night. The first night we stayed in Brigham City(20 minutes away) but we decided to move up to Logan the second night. After checking a few other places we decided on the Cache valley inn. The biggest plus was the price. One motel in town was $100 for the night(ridiculous for the chain) but this place was $60. They are remodeling right now(which is needed) but the room was good enough. There was a stain on the carpet which I don't really want to think about and the tub was scuffed up but other than that it was perfectly nice. I was happy with this place and would stay here again.

Just a note about me: I am very value minded and I don't really care about luxury. As long as a place is clean/safe enough and has a bed and toilet, I'm happy.

“Needs improvement”

We stayed at the Cache Valley Inn while in town for a weekend bike ride. While it was very convenient to the fairgrounds, where our bike ride started, the place needs a lot of work. Granted, they are in the midst of remodeling, but the rooms that are still waiting for their "makeover" are in sad shape, though clean. The carpeting was stained, tiles were missing in the bathroom, and the towels were old, worn and stained. The breakfast is very basic, mostly wrapped pastries. We had a coffee pot in our room with coffee packets, but no cups! The two other couples both had issues with their rooms - one was told that they absolutely could not move and the other was moved to the "honeymoon" suite!

Thank you for your comments!

Although worn, we really strive to keep the place clean, and in some state of repair until major capital improvement funding is available. We've made a number of changes at the hotel that I'm certain will make your stay even more enjoyable - including good rates!

We look forward to your next visit!

“Nice and economical”

This independent motel feels like a Days Inn. The front desk was very friendly at check in and helpful throughout my stay. The room was very clean and comfortable. This is not a luxury hotel so don't expect fancy linens and bath products. The complimentary breakfast was nothing special, but everything was good. For the price, this is an excellent motel that does exactly what I expect: Provide a clean, comfortable room with professional and courteous service.
