“touch and go/stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

We arrived at Green River, having spent the day on the road. It was our only stop where we did not have accommodation pre-booked. I tried to get a room at the rooster but they were full. So based entirely on it's name we went for the sleepy hollow. Ok no illusions..IT WAS CHEAP, $39 for a double room. And for that price what do you expect. It was a typical run down town and run down motel in serious need of a clean and refurb. The room had a particular stale smell, the lock wasn't great and I didn't feel that secure, we decided to leave our valuables in the car! But still it was quiet, we had a good nights sleep, and it made us get out early! The carpet was in serious need of a clean, or replacement it was filthy, we kept our shoes on! The owner was a character but friendly. Not sure I would go back but it was a proper old style motel with lots of character. Will remember sleepy hollow when all the same old same old best western memories have long faded, but maybe for the wrong reasons.

“hmmm. disaster!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

I have stayed at this hotel three times two out of the three times has been below unsatisfactory. The one time that it was satisfactory was when we stayed in the very front rooms. From our experiences in the back have been pure HELL. It took 4 to 5 hours to get the rooms heated to be able to take off our jackets. We literally could see our breath and felt like we were in a freezer. Once we got the room heated it was 4am in the morning. Our last stay at this motel was beyond anything we've experienced. Upon entering our room it looked nice and welcoming. Once we entered the bathroom was a totally different story. The toilet was broken, the tub had burn marks all over it, pieces of it was missing, the tub wouldn't drain at all, and the water would not stay warm. We tryed calling the front desk with no answer at all. We had to go up to the front desk at which then he offered us a plunger or keys to another room to be able to take a shower in. We went ahead and took the key to the other room. Upon entering THAT room was a scary experience. Keep in mind this was around midnight, we walked in and froze in confusion. The room still looked like someone was still there. The blankets to one of the beds was thrown on top of the table. The other bed was a complete disaster. The TV stand was broken and thrown in the middle of the cubby hole. Myself and my friend were literally scared to death cause at the same time the light was flickering and acted like it didn't want to turn on. At that moment we slammed the door and ran back to our room. After a few minutes we went back to the front desk. We advised the manager about what we saw and he said " uh the room is dirty" which was an understatement. At that point he handed us a plunger and said "It's too late to call a plumber. We went back to our room and tryed to see what we could do to fix the issue with the tub. We attempted to plunge the tub which did nothing but pulled up junk that resembled what we thought looked like woodchips, hair, grass, and god knows what else. And the tub still would not drain. At this point it was three hours into our stay and couldn't get refunded for all of our issues the management couldn't fix and refused to give us another room, and wouldn't give us our money back. At this point it was about 4 o'clock in the morning which I had be up in a couple hours, we just ended up staying up for the remainder of the time and ended up with no sleep and headed to work. We will NEVER stay at this place again and would much rather have slept in our car. Thank god that the TV worked despite the broken remote, but the beds were surprisingly comfortable. I wouldn't recommended this place to my own worst enemy or a dog. PS: Oh forget to mention that this place has bed bugs after of a couple hours of laying in bed.

“The customer is apparently an idiot, but not as much as the staff.”

I couldn't tell you anything about the cleanliness, room or sleep quality but I can tell you that the staff is very rude and incompetant. We called for a reservation at the beginning of May for the Memorial weekend. The person at the desk struggled with my reservation, I asked three times that my rooms were accurate and repeated the credit card number twice. After about 10 minutes on the phone, I believed the transaction was complete. Come to find out that this was far from the truth. We arrived to find that our name had been crossed out of the reservation because the person at the desk failed to take a credit card number down. We were rudely told that without a credit card number, they were unable to hold our room, and that we had not supplied said number. We explained that we had done so twice when the person at the desk argued back that she knew what her job was, that she knew what she was doing and that we were at fault. The person at the desk and the owner had no customer skills at all. If you like being told off by a teenager, you can stay at home with your own.

“Small, but clean and privately owned”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

We arrived late in the evening, with other motels being booked or too expensive. We came upon this small business (15 units I think), stopped and was glad we did. Although the furnishings were somewhat outdated, the room was large and clean. The bedding was not new, but clean and comfortable. There is a nop pet/no smoking policy, which was appreciated by many, as we got the last room. This is a "no frills motel, but you can stay here without worry of safety, bugs, etc., and it's very economical, at $40, compared to other locals over or at $100.
The lady who owns it is a talker and very pleasant.

“Great retro motel and incredible value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2009

The Sleepy Hollow was one of those fun discoveries that really add to a travel experience. We were looking for a place to pull off the interstate, catch some sleep and go. But we didn't want the charmless and expensive chain hotels in Green River, Utah -- of which there are half a dozen. Instead, we opted for a retro motel motorcourt place. The Sleepy Hollow had a couple of good reviews, so we took a chance. What a nice surprise. It's totally retro 50s. Very cool if you like that. The room was large and clean, the bathroom was in great shape (a little worn, but what do you expect?). And you couldn't beat the price (39 in mid October, 2009). We had a blast staying there. The manager was friendly and kind. This is a place where you get actualy keys, and you register on a little card. It's a wonderful place in a small town that is a bit down on its luck but is filled with nice people who work hard. If you have to stay in Green River, by all means stay here. Next door is a fun local hangout coffee shop. Oh, and be aware that the local grocery store is closed on Sundays -- a heads up to off-season travelers. Also the hotel closes for the season between November and sometime around Easter.
