“Failed to hold room with 2 queen beds.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

Our party of four adults arrived late Novermber 5th. And at first we were given a room with a single king and a hide away bed with 4 inch thick mattress and I had reserved a room with 2 queen beds in March. I returned to the desk and ask for the room that I had reserved in March and no other rooms were available. I was first informed that it was a error with reservation process. And then I was told that they had a agreement with the military and they recieved top priority for rooms with 2 beds and basicly it was first come first serve. After driving 11 hours that day we were so tired and we accepted the room We were credited $21.85 tward the cost of our room. This is my first bad experience with a Marriot property.

“Love the new, more modern Springhill Suites”

Ok. Once again Marriott has won me over with a property -- and that stings a little because I am loyal to Hilton and Priority Club first and Marriott second (Diamond/Platinum on them vs. only Gold... probably slipping to Silver this year at Marriott). That isn't because I don't care for the Marriott brand -- it's just tough to stay in budget as they generally cost more.

Occasionally though I have the good fortune (?) of finding myself in a town where Marriott is the only choice in budget or the only hotel with availability. This was, thankfully, one of those times. I'm currently on day 2 of a 3 day stay at this hotel. I'm on the first floor and have very few complaints about the property. Upon check-in (veerrrrry early -- 9am) the front desk staff (I think her name was Nia) was extraordinarily friendly. She laughed and joked with us and very quickly and efficiently got us checked in. She didn't make mention of our Marriott Rewards status other than to offer a survey that, if we filled it out, we would get 500 bonus points. I asked her if I could have ten. She laughed.

The hotel itself is one of the new, modern, hip and trendy SpringHill Suites. Kind of like they bought the whole place at Ikea. I'm 38 years old so the days of me being hip and/or trendy have long ended, but I have to admit I really like the clean lines and modern look of the hotel. The place is absolutely spotless from the lobby to the guest rooms to the gym... you name it. As someone who spends a lot of time in hotels over the course of a year, cleanliness is a big plus in my book.

When you walk into your room there is a sitting area with a couch on the left, a desk/table with a passthrough to the "bedroom" and a king bed. The HD/LCD tv can be swiveled to face either living area. There is also a microwave, coffee maker, and dorm-sized fridge. LED lights are over each side of the bed. If I were traveling with my spouse that would be great for reading or working without keeping the other person up late. The clock had an iPod charging area which was nice, but the time was wrong and I couldn't figure out how to change it. Stinks being old.

The coolest feature of this room is that there are two separate bathrooms -- perfect if you were traveling with a family. One had a commode and sink, the other a sink and shower (no tub). Both very clean and modern -- but what was cool is that they both had pocket doors. That gives bank a tremendous amount of space in the room and i'm surprised other hotels haven't caught on. The doors just slide into the walls when not in use.

The gym was very clean and well appointed with 2 treadmills and an elliptical along with a few free weights.

The hotel is adjacent to a movie theater, a bowling alley, and has a few restaurants within walking distance.

My only complaint, and I realize this is picky, is that the towels and bathmat look like they must have been stolen from the motel 6 down the street. They are the thinnest, cheapest bath towels I think i've ever seen. If you hold them up to the light you can just about see through them. Seriously. It's a shame that with all of the thought and effort they have clearly put into making the rest of the hotel way above average, this little detail was lost.

Walls were also paper-thin. I heard a baby crying for much of the night.

All in all, I'd stay again. I'm at 16 Marriott nights this year... doesn't look like I have a shot at holding Gold again for next year. Oh well.

“New, clean, sophisticated hotel for low cost”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

I'm from WA state, where a hotel of this caliber would cost hundreds per night. The hotel is new, very clean, and didn't aggravate my asthma. They do not take pets, which I appreciate. The beds were more comfortable than my memory foam one at home, and they supplied foam pillows to work around my feather allergy. There is a toilet/sink room separate from the main sink/shower room, which is nice if there are multiple people staying in the room. The complimentary continental breakfast was extensive, and had both hot and cold selections, as well as fruit and yogurt. There were both dark and medium roast coffee selections, and both were way above average hotel coffee. I'll see out this Marriott chain in the future.

“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

I took my daughter on a girls' weekend. Even though we live in Houston, we wanted to stay somewhere on this side of town so that it was convenient for us to go to Kemah and Galveston. We loved our stay at Springhill Suites. Check-in was very quick and the lady that checked us in was friendly and helpful. I did not get her name but she was working Friday and Saturday night, Sept 9/10. I also was pleased with Leah who was working on Saturday. I called the front desk around 10:00am because the group that was staying near us was very loud with kids slamming doors all around us and literally people wrestling in the hallway. Leah was very nice and explained that a sports team had a large number of rooms on our floor and immediately offered to move us to another room on another floor. We had a new room key in less than 5 minutes.

The rooms were both nice and new, very clean. The bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. I am not a big fan of hotel breakfasts in general because of my own personal food preferences but the selection was good as far hotel breakfasts go. We woke up late and therefore missed the fruit but there were pancakes, oatmeal, yogurt, items for breakfast tacos and bagels/English muffins. Good for those traveling with kids.

Overall great stay for a great price. I would recommend to others and will stay in Springhill Suites in the future.
