This is a very basic motel for an overnight stop - there are exterior entrances for the rooms, and external stairs for the second floor rooms – no elevator. The rooms are long and narrow, with not much space to maneuver; ours had one chair. The front lobby has a few tables for the HIE breakfast service; there is no fitness center or pool. Other than the breakfast offering, the only noticeable HIE feature is the curved shower curtain rod!
The motel is located right next to I-10 and the railway line, but fortunately the insulation is good and we were not bothered by noise from either. We did hear shower noises from the adjoining bathroom. The heating and cooling in our room worked well, and quietly. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. They will provide ear plugs if you ask - in fact there were plugs on the pillows in the room assigned to our traveling partners!
Van Horn has a range of motels, some very inexpensive, and others with more amenities, including fitness centers, indoor pools, and elevators, for not much more than the HIE. The newest along the freeway is the Hampton Inn. If we needed to stop in Van Horn again, we'd review these other offerings first.
