The Balinese Flats isn't your typical motel, and that's what we like about it. We've stayed there three times.
The Flats were built in the 50s, and you can tell, but they have been updated.
The previous reviewer did not stay at the Balinese Flats. The Flats are all ground level. If she stayed "upstairs", then she stayed at the Balinese Piers, which are behind the Flats and are new construction. They are not as roomy as the Flats.
Stuff we like:
-close the the ferry
-funky decor
-restaurants across the street
-pet friendly
-full kitchen
-television with dvd player
-wireless internet
-two bedrooms
-stained concrete floors (no nasty carpet, easy to clean up sand or spills)
Stuff that doesn't matter to us, but it might to you:
-not on the beach (but the island is small; it doesn't take long to get to the water no matter where you are staying)
-no daily maid service (these are little apartments; make your own beds, take out your own trash)
-no pool
Stuff we don't like:
-To me, the mattresses are too hard, and they make a funny sound when you sit or lay on them. I think they're cheap. Hopefully they will replace these soon.
