“Aransas Princess tiara needs polishing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2007

We stayed in unit 306 which is a three bedroom three bath. The Aransas Princess is nice enough in general for Port Aransas standards but this particular unit needs updating. The largest bedroom has a heavy sliding divider/door that is completely detached from it's track and extremely hard to move. The sliding door lock was broken and the refrigerator smelled like fish.
The kitchen has tired cabinets and counters and needs new pots and pans that are not chipped and bent; there are no basic essentials like pot holders, dish mops, or salt and pepper. The 2nd and 3rd bathrooms need remodeling and were smelly. These problems look as if they had been that way for a long time so I assume the owner's feel that they can get away with letting things slide until enough people complain.
This unit has an odd configuration of bedrooms; the largest bedroom should be a master suite with a king but has two double beds, the 2nd bedroom has a king and the 3rd smallest has a queen that fills up most of the room. Before staying here, I would ask to inspect the unit; there might be some that are in a lot better condition.

“Terrible Service and Reservations”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2007

We have stayed at this condominium in the past because they were less expensive and easier to book at the last minute. We booked another reservation with them for the weekend of August 17-19, again because we had waited until the last minute to reserve, and sent our deposit a week early, as is their policy. However, several days before our trip, a tropical storm moved into the area and it looked as though there would be nothing but thunderstorms all throughout our scheduled trip. Obviously, this is not weather that's conducive to a beach vacation. I called the manager and asked if we could get our deposit back; she said the only way they'd give a deposit back was if the governor called for an emergency evacuation. So, I asked if she would move our deposit to another date, even offering to pay peak season rates during the off-season. She refused to even allow us to reschedule our trip. Clearly, the management at Aransas Princess is more concerned with keeping customers' deposits than keeping the customers. We will never return and will instead foot the higher bills at the nicer places, which have much more to offer anyway. You get what you pay for.

“Avoid at all cost...”

Don't risk your vacation on the faulty reservation process at Aransas Princess. After booking on-line with a credit card and receiving a confirmation, our reservation was cancelled. We were told that "most people knew they had to send a check even if the website takes their credit card number". Were we telepathic, we might also have known... there was no notice on the site to that effect. By the time we received the cancellation notice two of the seven nights we needed had been booked by someone else. No one at Aransas Princess would take responsibility for their error. We will never attempt to stay with them again.

“Awesome Place!”

Excellent place to stay to unwind on the beach. When you're tired of the beach, just jump into one of the two refreshing pools on the premises.

Every room has an ocean-side view and the beach is a short walk down the path. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. A short drive will get you to all the main shopping and restaurants/bars of Port Aransas.

This was the best trip we've ever had down to Port Aransas. I would give this place an A++!

“Top Floor- Quiet Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2006

Perfect for couples wanting to retreat, read a book. We spoke with quite a few owners that live there or simply don't rent their units out. That's rare for a condo; some other places are all absentee-owners and don't care...and you can tell. Aran. Princ. keeps it simple and nice. Go elsewhere if you want a circus. I'm a writer and it was ideal. Quiet, classy, efficient. Loved the completely covered parking and pools on both sides. I liked cooling off without being blasted by the sun. Nice stretch of beach that has the city/county barriers so you don't have to look out at your beach view and have it marred by a row of cars with stereos blaring. Also close to town; great for a grocery store run or dinner. Stayed at Port Royale.. felt longer than the drive from Houston just to go to dinner and back. Don't go to the Aransas Princess to party- go with another couple, older kids, and go to appreciate it. Liked it better than renting a house- did that 1yr ago and was three blocks from the beach- might as well stayed home in the 'burbs. If you go to the beach get a real view- not just one from a 3rd floor bedroom window 1/2 blocked by another house. Another condo we stayed at 2yrs ago.. "on the beach"- but all we saw was a sand dune from 2nd floor- I love the dunes but can't see the ocean. Aransas Princess is my #1 choice. Only prob is the unit door handles need to be replaced. They are too close to the door jamb. I got a hurt knuckle when door slammed by the wind-watchout- barely 3/4" separation. Would be better with latch handles vs. knobs. Also, I can see how teens and those younger would be bored, though. Ours are grown so 'good for me!'. My wife and I payed our "kid" dues! But it's not a senior place, either- we are in our late 30's. Has our vote.

  • Liked — Clientel, quality, more full-time owners- few absentee owners. Place kept up nice.
  • Disliked — Some features need updating. Kitchens, hardware.
  • Tips/Secrets — ALWAYS check the SouthJetty paper online. Only place to find out about neat happenings.
