“Family Week Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My husband and 2 children, aged 3 and 6 have just returned from one week at this hotel. We had a great week staying at the Marylanza. It was definately better than what we expected.
Our room was G216 which was overlooking the road, yet we got the sun from morning until early evening which was great. The road was not that busy except for taxis and the noise was nothing to talk about.
The food was amazing and I had read previous reviews saying the food was very 'samey' however, there was always something different to chose from in terms of meat / fish dishes / soups. Guest helped themselves to soft drinks, water, Red or White Wine, Beer and a selection of fruit juices, including tea and coffee at lunch and dinner times.
The staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and appeared happy to be at their work.
As mentioned in previous Reviews, the food at the Pool Bar was not great, although I understand that improvements are being made to this. I am a bit of a fussy eater but was happy to make a chip butty mid afternoon. The kids loved walking up and helping themselves to vanilla or chocolate ice cream. On our first visit to the Pool Bar we were shown the drinks menu and told which drinks were included within the All Inclusive package along with the Cocktail menu. There was even a cocktail for kids, which they loved.
The Hotel was spotlessly clean, including our room. The kids slept in the bedroom and we slept in the lounge, which meant we could sit on the balcony in the late evenings. The only downside was my huband slept on the sofa and I slept on a smaller type bed. It was fine for the week but it would be nice to see a converted bed sofa in the future.
Many comments have been made about the lack of sunbeds and I would agree and it is very frustrating to see towels put out early in the morning and no-one coming near them until late in the day. I did put our towels out on our way to breakfast but we were straight down to the pool after breakfast. Unfortunately this is a problem in many hotels, not just the Marylanza.
My 2 children were able to swim in the 'heated' pool but only for short periods of time as they did get cold, but it certainly didn't put them off from going in over and over again.I had packed a lot of swim wear for them to change into!
There was a kids club from 1pm to 1.45pm every day except Sunday and Tuesday, ran by Dana, the entertainment girl. She was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for her. It says its for 4 to 12 yr olds but was youngest, who is 3 was able to go and there was only ever 4 kids max each day. They had converted an unused squash court into a kids club and I was happy to leave them there with Dana. My kids especially loved the mini disco each evening from 8pm.We loved it too as it brought back memories from when we were kids with our parents. It would be easy to say it was pretty rubbish, but for a 3 and 6 year old, it was the highlight of their day and we just enjoyed it for what it was. As for the Adult entertainment, after the disco, again it was what you would expect from a typical spanish hotel. All the children seemed to enjoy it and we were happy to sit and watch!
It was a 5 min walk to local cafes. bars, shops etc. Las Americas was a 10 min walk and my 3 yr old walked it no problem. We did taxi back for 5 euros. We also walked into Los Christianos which was 15 mins walk. Head to the Mare Nostrum Resort and along that road there is lots of activity and plenty of bars, restaurants and lovely shops!!
Take a walk into the Spa and wellness centre, beside the baby pool. All the prices are in Reception. I used the hairdressers for a wash and blowdry before coming home. He was fantastic and it cost 20 euros.
All in all this was a lovely week and a lovely clean and relaxing hotel. I could not class this hotel as 3 star by any means and would definately say it is 4 star. There are some areas that need attention but it seems that Management have aknowledged this in previous reviews.
Enjoy!!

Room Tip: G216 overlooking the road was great room. Sun all day on balcony

I am very thankful for all the comments posted on Tripadvisor (even the poetic ones), but especially for this kind of very complete and constructive reviews, which are very helpful for both future customers and ourselves. As mentioned by these clients we do put our greatest attention to any areas which may be improved and it is very nice of them to let us know that their stay with us was enjoyable and relaxing.

“Excellent food, friendly staff and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Had a really enjoyable week at the Marylanza - the staff go out of their way to make it a pleasant stay, with quick and efficient service and lots of smiles. It is a very good family hotel, our daughter had a ball, with all the staff making a fuss of her and lots of good child friendly meal choices in the restaurant.

I agree with some of the previous comments, the food in the snack bar isn't great, so pleased to hear that they are planning to make some changes to it - but we really couldn't fault the food in the main restaurant. Plenty of choice and variety and it is all well cooked. Its only dessert that gets a bit repetative, but in fairness I was generally so full by that point, it didn't really matter!

The rooms are a good size and was good to have a lounge area away from the bedroom. The rooms were clean and our request for a quiet room away from the restaurant and evening entertainment (so we could put our little girl to bed early) was accommodated - so if you do have any special requests, just ask, as the staff will do thier best to make it happen.

The only real gripe was people reserving sunbeds early in the morning and then not using them until much later in the day. In fairness, this isn't the hotels fault, its the guests who do it! The hotel do have signs up and a policy that they will remove towels that aren't being used if needed. At the welcome meeting the rep did explain that if you couldn''t find a bed, speak to reception and they would get someone to come and sort some out.... and I have no doubt they would have if required. We were lucky enough to always be arriving as someone was leaving so although it didn't particularly bother us, I can see that it probably a much bigger issue during busier times of the year.

As for the location, it was spot on. Its a 10 minute walk to Veronicas with all the bars, restaurants and clubs, but its far enough away to be out of the main hustle and bustle. A 20 minute walk the other way takes you to Los Cristianos and you can walk all the way between the two resorts along the promenade giving lots of choice for a bit of gentle exercise after all of the eating and drinking. We would definitely return to the Marylanza again.

“Not enough sun lounges,,,,great hotel though”

we went as a young family of 4 last june to the Marylanza, vey nice hotel, food was ok
good pool bar, self service , which was fantastic for both the children and adults
our only problem was people looking after sun beds for their own family and friends that where at the beach or on trips etc etc which left it very hard to get one for our selves, there was already a shortage of lounges , but this made it even worst

I hope the manager as sorted this issue out for June 2012 when we will be returning

After this client's visit we received new sunloungers (in early July), so the situation was sorted out. Some of the sunbeds in this new shipment anyway showed some defects and we will have them totally fixed soon (for sure before their next visit!).

“Amazing........ Great Family Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Myself, my wife and our little boy (2) stayed at this hotel last January and loved it so much that the day after we got back I booked up for January 2012 and after arriving back home two weeks ago having had another amazing holiday we will be booking up for January 2013. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, The location, the food, the staff, the upkeep, everything is spot on. Im very fussy about where I stay on holiday, especially with my family so after being recommended by a friend I booked us into the Marylanza. I'll list some points now that I think will help anyone wanting to book a family holiday here decide if this is for them - Hotel set on the side of a golf course just on the outskirts of Las Americas, 10/15 mins walk (with buggy) to the town centre and beach, Private Hospital 2 mins walk across the road from hotel (which my pregnant wife had to use, excellent service and they speak English...everything was ok), Hotel has a small kids play area which can get busy but if you walk out hotel and turn right up the stone path to the side of hotel for 3mins you will find another play park that is always quiet.
The restaurant has one of the best selections of food I've ever seen and every night they have a different theme with plenty of the usual stuff for kids. If All Inclusive there is also a selection of food and drinks on tap at the pool side. Most nights at 8pm they have a kids disco before the evening entertainment starts, kids love it. As for sun beds round the pool, even when the hotel is fully booked there are plenty of beds available so no need to reserve them first thing ( although most people usually do to keep their favourite spot free even though your not meant to...). We travelled with Thomson (First Choice) and our Rep Victoria was excellent, she sorted out the appointment at the hospital for us and really looked after us. I hope you have found this info useful and I hope you enjoy your stay at the Marylanza as much as we did. Oh one last thing, take a travel Iron with you as they are hard to get hold of in hotel.

Room Tip: If booking with kids and you want a room next to and overlooking the kids pool then request rooms F1...

“Great stay - lovely clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We've just come back from a lovely week at the Marylanza and I just wanted to add a couple of thoughts/feedback as I know the manager keeps an eye on this. Loads of positives as we had a bright clean room, lovely choice of food (suits every taste with pizza, pasta, grilled meat, tonnes of salad, hot choices...), it's a pretty building with a gorgeous villa feel, friendly staff etc.

I was disappointed at how cold the heated pool was as we didn't have sun all day every day and I understand from our rep that the hotel only heats the pool to 22/23 degrees (which only really takes the edge off the coldness unless the sun is out). My 2 yr old wouldn't go in after the first attempt and we had chosen the hotel partly for the heated pool as I knew we couldn't rely on the sun heating it up at this time of year. Luckily towards the end of the week, the child's pool was so shallow it was a bit warmer, but there we go.

Also we had seen the hotel advertised with a 'soft play centre'. The playground here is a great wee outdoor swing/slide area that our daughter loved, but it's definitely not soft play in the way Brits would understand it. If you fall here, you graze your knee and the only concession to softness is that there are padded panels around the walls - the rest is a wooden/metal/hard plastic play set.

My only other feedback is that information is pretty scarce in the hotel. There aren't many signs for things like your room number or the restaurants, there are no info packs in the rooms and we felt that if you had any basic questions (eg where to get pool towels from, what drinks are included in the all inclusive package, if you could get room service and what would be on offer etc) you had to find the information from someone. It was a little confusing that we were told not to drink the water on the coach on the way in to the hotel (apparently the high mineral content doesn't agree with a lot of people) but there was nothing from the hotel about this and there was no bottle of water in the room on arrival which is normal at least on the first day if there i. The staff are all really friendly and they are happy to answer questions, but it's nice to have all the info in one place so that you immediately know what's what when you arrive and don't feel like you are having to track down any answers. I would have put this down on a feedback form in the room had there been one, but I suspect this is part of the reason that so many people post reviews on the hotel on Trip Advisor as you know that your feedback will be read.

Overall the hotel is great and I would recommend it to lots of people, but in particular families as there is lots for kids.

Our heated pool should remain steady at 25ºC, which is the temperature established for outdoor pools (mainly due to environmental reasons, for beyond that it implies a disproportionate waste of energy with regards to the effect achieved). Water may seem to be on the cold side depending on the ambient temperature and external circumstances on a specific day, but this is still preferable and healthier than experiencing a sudden drop of the temperature when getting out of the pool. Our hotel complies with all the specifications required for outdoor playgrounds, including rubber floor. We are working on a welcome pack in the rooms so that our guests find all the information needed, but since we are still making quite a few changes in several facilities and services, we will not have a definite version until these changes be completed. We have now brand new menus in our restaurants and the ones for the bars are on the way, so it will be much clearer what guests are entitled to with their all-inclusive package, and the supplement applied to drinks which are not included. Tap water in Tenerife is hard (with a high mineral content), but is still drinkable. Anyway, from my personal experience, I personally do not recommend to drink any tap water when going abroad, no matter how good water may be, for our body is not used to the different content in the water and this may result in stomach problems. Quality questionnaires are arranged by an outer company without previous notice in order to guarantee objectiveness, so that we may know first hand what our guests really think about their stay with us. Anyway comments and suggestions are also welcome, by means of Tripadvisor, per e-mail, in a letter or even personally to me or to any of our staff members.
