We stayed in early February and have just got back in fact. We had a 2 bed apartment, just for the two of us which, in all honesty was just as well. It wouldn't have been big enough for more than two people and if we'd had a 1 bedroom there wouldn't have been enough storage space. 2 rings, a microwave, a fridge, and a sink do not, in my mind constitute a kitchen and was not what we have come to expect on our timeshare exchanges. We certainly couldn't have cooked anything beyond toast in there. Having said that, everything was clean and looked reasonably well cared for. One thing, not everyone who stays in an hotel is incontinent, so why put plastic-backed mattress protectors on the bed? They are truly the work of the devil himself - and if you are still looking for the one we removed from our bed, it is in the bedside drawer.
There was no information in the room about the facilities of the hotel, the resort or the local area. There were two folders on reception about trips. We weren't exactly welcomed to the hotel, just given our keys and told the bell-hop would take our cases up. No information on how to work the safe, the fact that you need to put a card in for the electricity to work etc etc. No plan of the hotel, we had to find the restaurant, shops, pool etc by having a wander round and finding it for ourselves. No welcome meeting, which I suppose some people like. There was absolutely NO hassle from any timeshare reps, again which I suppose is better, but hardly good if someone was looking to buy.
Daytime entertainment consisted of exercises in front of the stage and then petanque or short mat bowls, end of. Evening entertainment was erm... variable and mostly entirely missable. One evening there was supposed to be a kids disco, the only music playing was Andy Williams tracks - they decided to hold the entertainment indoors as it was really too cold and the Kids rep rounded a few of them up.... and then told them off for being late! On the Thursday evening they had a singer in the Lobby bar area. Well that wasn't too bad and people were having a bit of a dance around despite the fact he didn't seem to know more than half the words to any of the songs. There weren't enough places to sit though and it seemed a pity that this wasn't put on in the bar/restaurant area downstairs which was absolutely dead.
The only restaurants available were the pool bar/Little Italy. Both of these are run and waited on by the same staff. Thankfully neither were ever full, or the few staff there were would never have been able to cope. The food operation having been hived off to an outside company, the hotel do not appear to promote the restaurant at all, which was a shame as the food was very good indeed - it just lacked an ambience and some customers.
The pool area was ok... but you had to play the game in the mornings if you wanted a sunbed that would get some sunshine. This meant a quick dash down to the pool area and putting your towels on a couple of beds and then clearing off back to bed, or to have breakfast. Then some of them would not be occupied until late in the afternoon. Everyone does it, and you have to play along otherwise you're out of luck by 9.30am. Oh and the pool was very cold. Getting in took your breath away. Once you swam around a bit you got inured to it, but you had to keep moving! There are signs up saying children are not allowed in the jacuzzis. They are ignored.
The walls of this hotel are paper thin. We barely slept at night due to the constant noise of the man in the next apartment snoring all night every night. The double glazing of the windows is pointless as even with them closed you can hear everything happening in the street outside. The drunks going by in the early hours were another disturbance. The patio doors to our balcony didn't lock. In fact they didn't even HAVE a lock mechanism. I suppose when one is 12 floors up its unlikely anyone is going to climb up and come in, but even so...
When we went to check out, we were just told OK that's it. No "Thanks for staying with us, hope you'll come again". If this had been our first look at Timeshare, we certainly wouldn't have bought into it.
Would we return to this hotel? Thankfully it has the 1 in 4 rule applying so we can't, but we wouldn't in any case.
