“Nice, but compact.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Our studio, in the Selenes block, for 4 adults struggled to cope with 3. Unless you are very good friends, I would suggest opting for one of the larger apartments. For bed arrangements there was one pull out double sofa bed, another sofa that you pulled the cover off to reveal a bed and then a pull out job from under the 2nd sofa. Once all the beds were out you would struggle to see the carpet and night-time toilet visits became a bit of an obstacle course. Loads of hot water available for showers and there was a tiny but well equiped kitchen.

From the Silenes block there was a 5 -10 minute walk to/from the ski lifts, unless you can find the path which knocks a few minutes off. Failing that, the regular bus stops right outside on the way there, and nearby on the way back. The bus runs every 15 mins, but be careful on the way back as you will end up going via Plagne Bellecote and Plagne Centre before you get back to Plagne 1800.

There was a handy nearby Spar and a nice Pizzeria just down the hill.

The only real problem was with the in-room wifi access. It was a bit hit and miss and, although the reception folks were all really nice and tried to be helpful, they were unable to as wifi support is via a French telephone support line. If you do have wifi problems it might cost a lot to get any problems sorted out via your mobile.

If you fancy it, there is an outside pool available for your use at the main Maeva building.

Would I go back, the answer would be yes, but I might opt for a larger apartment, depending on who I am with.

“3rd time at Plagne Lauze Apartments”

Excellent value for money apartments in Plagne 1800. We have stayed in 2 apartments here in 2010 and 11. for a family of 4 we chose a slightly bigger apartment which had a double bedroom and 2 make up beds for teenage kids in living area. I agree that there are a lot of stairs but views from apartment make up for that and the fact that you have an outdoor swimming pool and a sauna certainly is an added bonus. We are going back to Plagne Lauze this year, love the ski areas and for value for money apartments that are clean and functional with the added benefit of pool and sauna you can't beat it. Mine bar at the bottom of Plagne 1800 is fab and for ski equipment Bodusport and friendly and reasonable.

Room Tip: Go for the larger apartments that accomodate 4, check out their website for room size! (there are 2...

“You need to be stair fit as well as ski fit if you stay here”

We stayed in a two room apartment for a family ski trip. At the time our boys were 10 and 8 years old. We found our appartment to be a clean, well functioning but difficult base for a young family.

Access
The residences consist of about 6 or 7 separate low profile buildings that cascade down the hilside. We arrived at night, luckily most of our luggage has wheels. A switchback road links up the residences with the separate office/reception and outdoor pool. There are no lifts in the residence buildings. Our building had an entrance at the top (some have access from the top and bottom). We had to go up 6 floors in gear and boots to collect boards & ski's. Then we had a walk down to the ski lift (which was below our appartment). I guess it would take us 20-30minutes depending on whether we forgot something or the kids dropped a glove, hat etc on the way up through the labarynth of stairs and corridors.

Appartment
The appartment itself was the best PV I have stayed in. If an old basic PV was 1 and MGM was 8 then this would be around 3-4.

Shopping
There is a SPAR at the top of the road - by the reception block. There is also a pizza in/out place nearby.

Oxygene
We booked ski lessons & equipment with Oxygene - they provide english speaking lessons. Our boys went not wanting to do either the 5 days ski school or 3 days lunch club we booked them in for. They ended up doing 5 days of both & loving it.

Discount pass
We traveled with a tour company who offered a discoiunt card for 5-10E, we did not take it because we were not sure what it would give us. In hindsight this would have been a money saver for us since we eat in cafe's for most lunches and we could have saved 10% with the card..

Room Tip: Try to get an appartment as near to the entrance / exit level as possible

“Basic Small Apartments and needs a lift !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

We booked a twin bedroom apartment, and were located in the Digitale Block, there are 10 seperate blocks.
The bad; My main gripe was the size of the apt, the bedroom was tiny, fit the beds in only, the other room which doubled up as a Living room, Kitchen and bedroom - pull out sofa was probably 10 x 10ft, pretty compact.
No lifts ! had to drag the cases up 4 sets of stairs.
The good; decent location, a 10 minute walk down to the button lift to get up to Plagne centre.
Great patisserie within a 2 minute walk.
Quiet but we were at the end of the season.
Transport works well, the bus takes you up to the centre and Bellecotte.

If I was to stay here again I would stay in Bellecote.
Also booked Oxygene lessons for my daughters aged 7 & 9 and would recommend them.

Room Tip: Use the pool
