I booked a room at Days Inn Gainesville for New Year's Eve, 2010 and guaranteed it with my Visa card. After working all day December 30, I got home at midnight and had a voice mail message left by Days Inn at 2:00 p.m. that day stating that my card would not go through and that I had to call before 4:00 p.m. that same day or my reservation would be cancelled. I immediately called Days Inn and, sure enough, the reservation was cancelled and I was informed that they were completely full and there was nothing that could (or would) be done. I am certain that I gave the clerk my correct credit information.
The person that answered the room was extremely full and basically told me "tough!" I asked to speak to the manager and was told that she would be in the next day. I asked for her phone number and he told me that there was "no way I was getting her number!"
I received no assistance whatsoever from Days Inn, and no apology for the room cancellation other than that was their "policy." I began calling other hotels in Gainesville and all were full for New Year's Eve. Most of the other hotels was very cooperative and were referring me to hotels that they thought had rooms.
I found the Quality Inn up the highway to be the most cooperative. The clerk answering the phone at midnight was very friendly and asked that I call back first thing the next morning, which I did. The person answering the phone then said that yes, they were also full, but asked if I wanted to be on a waiting list. I said yes and Quality Inn called be in about an hour with a room. They were extremely friendly and cooperative, and even offered me a discount for my trouble (caused by Days Inn). The Quality Inn room was extremely clean and the beds are new and very comfortable. I strongly recommend Quality Inn of Gainesville.
I will never stay at a Days Inn again just because of the horrible treatment received from them. They never apologized and never offered any assistance, just basically saying "tough!"
