My boyfriend, my dog and I stayed here for 2 nights this past Easter weekend and had a great time.
Tin Star Ranch is located an easy 10 mile drive north of Fredericksburg and we booked "The Homestead" cabin for our stay. The rate was $179/night plus a a $25 fee to bring our dog. You have to book the place through "Gastehaus Schmidt" which is a booking service
in Fredericksburg. We found GS to be disorganized and not too helpful but it was worth putting up with them to get to stay at Tin Star.
The property itself is in the middle of beautiful rolling green hills, just right for long country walks. Our Homestead cabin came equipped with a kitchen, 2 bedrooms (one bedroom even had a jacuzzi tub for 2), 2 full bathrooms, a living room with a big wood burning fireplace, and a covered porch which had a gas grill. It was decorated in a rustic but nice style - like something you would see in a Ralph Lauren ad. The floor was large terracotta tiles covered here and there with indian style rugs.
The owner met us when we arrived, gave us a hand with our luggage and showed us the features of the cabin. When we needed more firewood, we just called them and they brought some by in about 10 minutes. Otherwise, they just left us alone to have a relaxing, peaceful stay.
Coffee and packets of sugar are provided but that is IT so you need to bring food and beverages with you. (the kitchen is stocked with utentils, plates, etc.) There is a HEB grocery store in Fredericksburg as well as a WalMart (with grocery section) but those are both a good 13 mile drive back into town so make sure and stock up on everything you think you will need before driving out to Tin Star.
Last but not least, our dog Sascha loved it there. We were able to go on long walks with her and the roads were deserted so there was no danger in her getting run over.
We would definitely like to return!
