My wife and I spent a Friday and Saturday night at this wonderful property, and we were very happy that we did. There are a large number of lodging/cabin/B&B options within twenty miles of this property and we have stayed at a number of these over the years. We try to mix it up a little and have yet to stay at the same place twice.
We chose the property for a number of reasons:
1) Close to my brother's house where we would drop off our youngest son for the weekend
2) Close to Wimberly and a couple of really great dinner options we wanted to try.
3) Secluded, romantic with a fireplace and hot tub.
The Cabin was fantastic. It is very well appointed with:
A single bed down and a King in the loft
Great stone shower with a bench.
Well equipped kitchen for with full size everything
Good coffe maker
TV/VCR/DVD/CD/Radio
A comfortable recliner and great leather loveseat
A FANTASTIC HOT TUB
Fireplace (the flue is a little tricky)
We got in late Friday, drove down the long, paved road past the owner's beautiful home and drove a few hundred yards past to the cabin. The cabin was clean and warm and felt like home. We were hungry, so we went back out to eat almost immediately and had a great dinner at Mandola Winery (Trattoria Lisina) in Driftwood. We would recommend it. We came back to the cabin early and enjoyed the hot tub to end a wonderful first night (despite the weather). We also had a few slices of wonderful sweet loaf bread left for us at the cabin for a late dessert.
Here is where my one small beef comes into play. Where the breakfast part of B&B is concerned, we were a little disappointed. There was a small loaf of bread (it was very good) left for us on Friday night and frozen wild boar sausage in the freezer. The small beef is that we had to go through an effort to thaw out the sausage, go to the store, get eggs, toast, etc to really enjoy a nice breakfast. I wasn't expecting a continental spread, but maybe another muffin/bread/cinnamon roll drop on Saturday night or Sunday morning would have removed this as a minor beef. The bread and sausage were superb. For $195 a night, including tax, we were expecting a little more from the breakfast part of the B&B. Please note that even on their site, although it is described as a B&B, there is no explicit description of the spread you can expect.
A few hours in Wimberly, naps, hot tub, naps, reading, hot tub and then dinner at The Salt Lick in Driftwood. Outstanding BBQ, great people watching and legendary blackberry cobbler a la mode. Highly recommended. Back to the cabin and a romantic starlit hot tub one last time before retiring to a very comfortable kingsize bed in the loft.
We saw a number of deer on the property, there are llamas in a small pasture near the cabin, a beautiful hillside view and non-stop peace and quiet. While we weren't too far from the owners home, we never laid eyes on them, even with our semi-frequent comings and goings.
All-in-all, my wife and I agreed that we would not only recommend the property to others, but that we thought that the accomodations, the hot tub, fireplace and natural beauty of the hillside vistas were a fair trade for what we paid to borrow the Hillside Cabin for two romantic nights. We both decided we would miss it until we could stay there again.
