Hotel was modest, clean, torn carpet, two used, washed?, kleenexes under the bedspread. BUT the grounds were neat, well groomed, lots of grass and the staff was friendly. Terrible odor outdoors in the morning which dissipated with a moderate breeze. ( What else would one expect near "Oyster Creek" and the chemical plants?) Will stay again as we have two little pets and the loction was ideal for our business trip. The continental breakfast was what La Quinta advertises. Good value for the local competeing prices and locations.

Pleasant staff & a nice location can be found only 6 miles from the Gulf Coast. The cost was low, the room clean, and the continental breakfast above average. We would choose this motel when returning to this area in the future.
Although not a large museum, and less than 2 miles fromSea Center Texas is beautiful. It's tanks are sparkling clean. All the volunteers seemed to want to be there(not the case in many other FREE museum visits). The "touch tank" allows a feel of the sea anemones...ooww :)
Surfside Beach (includes all Brazio beach area) charges only $8.00 for carload access to the beach for entire year (renews Jan. 1). Surfside primitive camping is included in this price. Now, that's a deal if you want to rough it with the kids!
We enjoyed a delicious Mexican restaurant called El Torro's a few blocks from the hotel. The staff will happily give you directions!

We ATTEMPTED to stay here during Spring Break in March of 2005. We made reservations for a double non-smoking room with a late check in. Upon arrival at 10pm, they had us in a king (wouldn't work for 4 people). The room smelled strongly of smoke. About 45 minutes later, still no room, and no one in charge seemed to know what to do.
We left and stayed at Comfort Suites, which was very nice. I'm from this area and was embarrassed by the condition of the La Quinta. Smelly rooms, rotten wood, sagging balconies; just generally run down and dirty-looking. I can understand a mix-up in reservations every now and then, but there's no excuse for a dirty, decrepit hotel.
