“Friendly, Comfortable, Convenient”

TEXAS, the musical production that is offered in the Palo Duro Canyon Park was something on our "bucket list". We left Houston early in the morning and arrived in Canyon early enough in the evening to check in at the Hudspeth House Bed and Breakfast in Canyon, Texas, eat a meal at a local eatery, take pictures of some of the canyon scenes, and still get to the play in time. The Bed and Breakfast was clean, comfortable and the owners were very accommodating and helpful with suggestions for places to eat for dinner. The only negative would be the parking issue. The inn was full with lots of vehicles. We parked on the street, although the owners suggested we could park in the parking lot across the street. The town is small and very friendly.

July is quite hot in Texas, so dress comfortably for the play which is an outdoor production. We had a great breakfast the next morning which started with a prayer by the owners. We had great service and had wonderful conversation with other visitors. Then we were off to Colorado.

“The Best”

This B & B is the best I have ever visited. The hosts (Jill and Van) were friendly, knowledgeable and a joy to be around. The breakfasts were marvelous. The room (Chloe) was beautifully decorated with a wonderfully comfortable bed. The building is close to 100 years old and utterly charming. Just being there reminded me of the movie "Somewhere in Time." Cozy, warm and full of good vibes. The location is nearly perfect if one is there to visit Palo Duro Canyon. An absolutely great place.

Room Tip: We chose the Chloe. It turned out to be marvelous. Definitely recommend.

“Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We stayed there this past weekend and loved it! The house is beautiful and our room was lovely, we stayed in the Lighthouse! The owners, Jill & Van were wonderful and very friendly. Upon arrival Jill gave us tips on where and what to do in Canyon and we took her advice and ate at the Thai Restaurant on the Square and it was wonderful. We were in Canyon to run the Palo Duro Canyon Trail Run and couldn't make breakfast on Saturday Morning since we had to be up so early, so Jill made us some yogurt parfaits and left them in the Frig for us! Not sure if we will do the run next year, but if we do, we will definitely stay at Hudspeth House again!

Room Tip: For an intimate and private room..the lighthouse was perfect!

“A Historic Stay with Modern Convenience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Unless you prize flexibility or isolationism over reasonability and practicality, there is really no reason you should not stay at the Hudspeth House as opposed to any of the other hotels in Canyon, TX. Here's why:

1.) You will stay in a clean, beautifully furnished and decorated room which has literally been hand-crafted in nearly every way. That is to say: you will see and feel comfort in the best possible way. You may want to take more pictures of your temporary residence, its grounds, and your room than anything else in Canyon, TX! (I know we did.)

2.) The value of your stay is, to say the least, a great deal. Not only do you get what you pay for in a good night's sleep: you also get a wonderful hot meal, delicious tea and cookies at check-in, a fantastically relaxing front porch complete with rocking chairs and a porch swing, and very courteous and personalized service from a decent and respectable family.

3.) Every modern convenience is available just like in a hotel (HVAC, free wifi, refrigerator, filtered water, iron, sundries, toiletries, door locks & keys, etc.). They even have desks with three-prong electrical outlets for your laptop (really quite a surprise in such an old place).

It should be noted that breakfast is at one time, and one time only: but if you let the owners know ahead of time they will give you some baked goods to take with you in the morning. Breakfast will likely last a good half hour since it is served in courses. You will probably eat breakfast with other people in a beautiful dining room glowing with morning light, served and blessed by the owners. If you are a vampire or otherwise afraid of light, extremely atheist, anti-monotheist, or just anti-social to the point where you can't sit at a table with others: you may want to consider other options.

The owners are very willing to accommodate food allergies, lighting preferences, special needs, drink choices, etc. if you just let them know in advance. Jill and Van are great hosts and you don't want to miss a stay at their house!

Room Tip: I highly recommend the Hudspeth Room, and can't really speak for the other rooms.

“LOVED IT !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

We were greated by the owner which was very friendly. We were shown to our room and give tips for going to the play in Palo Duro Canyon, which were our plans for the evening. The inn was very quite and the beds very comfortable. At breakfast the next morning the owner blessed the food before serving yogart with fruit. After that we were served the best orange french toast and sasuage I have ever had. This was our first time to ever say in a B & B. If all are like this we will never stay in a hotel/motel again.
