“It has a lot of potential. Housekeeping and Internet problem hurt my overall impression.”
Stayed from 11 to 17 November 2011. GPS coordinates are N 32 50.364 W 097 07.094 . Study a map because there is a lot of road construction going on around the hotel. Depending on the time of day, it will add to your travel time and possible confusion on how to access the hotel. On Saturday night, both access roads that lead to the hotel were closed, and I had to speak with a police officer directing traffic for permission to drive to the hotel. Depending upon traffic, DFW airport is about 15 minutes away. No airplane or road noise could be heard so it is a quiet location. Within a 5 minute drive, there is a wide variety of fast food restaurants, convenience and grocery stores.
Good news is that I was upgraded to a Priority Club Room on the 5th floor. The building is in the shape of an L, so these rooms were off to the side away from the main hallway. Room itself was large, well decorated, and comfortable. Nice 32” LCD TV with a wide variety of channels were available. Bed, linens, towels, amount of hot water, and water pressure were all fine.
There were housekeeping issues. After my first night, my room was not cleaned at all. There were random long hairs on the bed, floor, and in the bathroom. One day, there was a long hair right in the middle of the bathroom sink after the room had been cleaned—no possible way it could have been overlooked—most likely belonged to the housekeeping staff. Previous guest had dropped a sunflower seed on the floor, and it was overlooked during my entire stay. Yes, I could have picked it up and thrown it away myself, but I wanted to see if housekeeping was paying attention.
The bed offers a firm and soft pillow. Each is identified by a nice removable fabric belt labeled “firm” or “soft”. On my third day, I returned to my cleaned room, and these nice fabric belts had been removed from the pillows and literally thrown on the love seat nearest the bed. At other hotels that feature similar novelty accessories, the accessories are folded nicely and placed on the bottom of the night stand or in the nightstand drawer. When I saw how the belts were thrown, had to do a double take and stop to think if I had done that. Am not a neat freak, but it looked really bad and unprofessional.
Internet access was a major issue during my stay. Free WiFi is offered by the hotel, but it was not working in my room from Friday to Tuesday. Friday night, I carried my laptop into the hallway and down to the lobby, and the WiFi worked in both areas. Even connecting to the wall outlet via LAN cable did not work. Reported the problem in person at the front desk on Friday and was given a 1-800 number to call to fix the issue. After calling 10 times over a 3 day period, got nothing but a busy signal. On Sunday, I had Internet access at another location, so I sent an e-mail to the hotel describing the Internet access problem. To date, I still have not received a reply.
The key controlled entrance closest to my room gave me convenient access to the parking lot. Unfortunately, the street light that covers that area of the parking lot never worked during my stay. There is a large vacant lot adjacent to that area, so that unlit area is a safety issue for people and personal property.
The young lady who checked me was chewing gum. There is a discrete way to chew gum, and then there is her imitation of a cow chewing its cud. She was really getting her money’s worth out of that gum. Asked for a 0600 wake up call on Monday, and it never arrived. When I checked out at 0600 on Thursday, there were two people ahead of me and the front desk staff must have been working on something in the back office. Could not wait around, so I dropped of my keys and did not get a receipt.
After reading the reviews, I gave this property the benefit of the doubt because very old reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. This could have easily been a 5 star review, but these small issues add up.
