We recently visited the Cherokee National Forest on a trip from Florida around the southeast. The Forest features not only breathtaking mountain views but beautiful rivers and mountain streams. We especially enjoyed the Ocoee Whitewater Center, home to the 1996 Olympic canoe and kayak events. The center itself is a beautiful building that houses the Visitor Information center and a wonderful gift shop. The grounds of the center showcase the olympic course, a wonderful memorial bridge that spans the upper ocoee river and beautiful picnic grounds. The staff at the center were friendly and helpful providing us with maps of the area and a detailed trail map of their Tanasi Trail system that includes 37 miles of hiking and biking trails and lists length and difficulty of each trail. This is one spot you don't want to pass up if your traveling through!!
