To get to this National Forest from I-75 we took the Hwy. 64 bypass which is south of Cleveland, TN and runs east from I-75 past Cleveland into the forest. This is a lot easier than trying to pass through Cleveland itself to get there.

The drive through on 64 is beautiful, the TVA has three dams on the Ocoee River which create scenic lakes and nice views as you drive east.

As the previous reviewer noted the Visitors Center is well worth a visit.

There were lots of whitewater rafters on the river as we passed by. Lots of kids riding the rapids on a hot summer day.

“Wonderful Trip”

We recently visited the Cherokee National Forest on a trip from Florida around the southeast. The Forest features not only breathtaking mountain views but beautiful rivers and mountain streams. We especially enjoyed the Ocoee Whitewater Center, home to the 1996 Olympic canoe and kayak events. The center itself is a beautiful building that houses the Visitor Information center and a wonderful gift shop. The grounds of the center showcase the olympic course, a wonderful memorial bridge that spans the upper ocoee river and beautiful picnic grounds. The staff at the center were friendly and helpful providing us with maps of the area and a detailed trail map of their Tanasi Trail system that includes 37 miles of hiking and biking trails and lists length and difficulty of each trail. This is one spot you don't want to pass up if your traveling through!!
