First off, the owners are now Bob and Stephanie, so the older reviews from 2008 and before really shouldn't apply.
I was looking for a quiet getaway in nature, in or near mountains but without the risk of snow this time of year and I found Boroka Downs. It is everything I wanted.
The location feels like the middle of nowhere, yet it is surprisingly close to everything.
I loved the units. I found them to be wonderfully contemporary and literally had everything I could need. I took advantage of a special they were offering that upgraded my package to include groceries for breakfast, and I have to say, that was really awesome. They had stocked the refrigerator and I would normally have not bothered to go buy such groceries and it was truly a treat to wake up and cook a gourmet breakfast for myself and I never had to go to the store!
The beds and bedding are divine, the bath towels extra thick and luxurious.
The spa bath is not just a spa bath like most motels in Australia, it is more like a hot tub that you have to fill. It's massive and circular and has a bunch of jets. They have thought of everything and provide lots of candles and bath products for an indulgent or romantic experience.
I absolutely loved being able to make a wood fire in the fireplace (actually, they made the fire and all I had to do was light it!).
I cooked full meals and found the kitchen to be stocked with absolutely everything I could need.
I watched DVDs from their extensive library (updated with very new releases, unlike most hotel/motels!) and was thrilled with the Surround Sound home theater system, especially because these units are round and the sofa in the middle of the room, so it is true surround!! And I loved being able to put my iPod on the dock provided and play the stereo when I was using the spa or cooking.
It was thrilling to wake up and have dozens of kangaroos grazing just off my patio and I really enjoyed the walking trail on the property over to the border of the national park.
My package included some passes and information for the attractions in the area and I found that so helpful. I probably wouldn't have bothered to go to those places if they hadn't provided me info and passes. I'm really glad I did!!
The only thing I did't give a 5 "Excellent" was the Value, which I gave a 4 "Very Good". I do feel it was a very good value for the quality and level of detail and service, but for this area and being self-catering without resort amenities on-site such a pools, spas, gyms, etc., seems just a tad overpriced. I definitely recommend staying more than 2 nights if you can. You will get more value for your money and it gives you a chance to settle in and really enjoy.
